New York Times declares Zone Manhattan best diet-to-your-doorstep

New York Times reporter Fred Bernstein, who says he’s pushing 230 pounds, decided to try out 4 popular diet meal delivery plans. He samples Zone Manhattan, Chefs Diet, Nu-Kitchen and eDiets. Pretty much all of them taste like hospital food, he says, so he continues to sneak Ritz crackers.

Zone Manhattan, however, is a different story. He writes,  “I liked the food so much — and cheated so little — that I lost six pounds in the first four days on the diet. I also wasn’t as hungry as I had been when I was eating more. In fact, I was avoiding the carbs — bagels, cookies, crackers — that I had craved most of my life.”

This is the same nutritional plan that supposedly gave Jennifer Aniston her enviable body. The theory, developed by Dr. Barry Sears in the 1990s, suggests that you eat meals containing precisely 40% carbohydrates, 30% protein, and 30% fat.  Dr. Sears admits that cooking at home with 40:30:30 ratio can be overwhelming. Hence the Manhattan solution to all things troublesome: delivery!

The price tag for personal chef? $44 a day. So, no, it’s not cheap to eat like Jen. But it’s almost $20 a day cheaper than a juice cleanse.
