Summer Runnin': Tanks and shorts get light and bright
Running apparel is leaving muted, boyish shades in the dust and lunging towards bright neons, regal purples, and prints like florals and polka dots.
“Right now fitness fashion is putting on a happy face,” says Jack Rabbit’s apparel buyer Dina Pappalardo. “Brooks’ current campaign is called ‘Run Happy’, and I think that’s a good tagline for the season overall,” she observes.
The sense of fun is carrying over into the functional design of the items, producing lightweight clothing that keeps you cool and doesn’t weigh down your workouts.
“Innovative fabrics are everywhere this season,” says Pappalardo. “Not only can you feel like you’re going faster, but you stay comfortable so you can go further.”
Here are a few hot items on at the forefront of these trends:
New Balance Shimmel Tank, $45
A new skin-cooling technology called IceFil is layered into this tank’s high-sweat zones. The medium-support tank with chic back straps has removable cups and can do double-duty at yoga.
Puma Running Shorts, $35
These pretty purple Pumas have a barely there feeling, but make a serious fashion statement as you fly by.
Wear this tank with a bright burst of berry and a cool print to your super serious boot camp. It has a built-in bra.
Items available at JackRabbit Sports locations in Union Square, Upper East Side, Park Slope, and the new Upper West Side location at 140 W. 72nd Street.
