Refrigerator Look Book: Brooke Siler

Brooke SilerPilates superstar Brooke Siler (she was trained by Joseph Pilates’ protege, Romana Kryzanowska) opened re:AB Pilates in 1997. She quickly gained a dedicated following of both mortals and celebrities (i.e. Kirsten Dunst).  Siler’s also the author of the best-selling book, The Pilates Body, and the mother of two. Here’s what we found in her fridge.

You have three types of milk. Which do you prefer?
I’m allergic to all things cow’s milk—I break out on my jaw line and chest. So the cow’s milk is for the kids and my husband. I have soy, and the almond as well. There’s also some chocolate coconut milk in the upper part of the door that you can’t see. We send my older son to school with the small boxes of it as an alternative to the school’s chocolate milk.

Brooke SilerThe Vibrant Health Rainbow Vibrance: Are antioxidants a focus?
I am a big believer in eating richly colorful foods to keep carotenoids acting as antioxidants. I make a shake pre- or post-workouts, and the Rainbow Vibrance ensures that I am over the top of my daily quota for fruits and veggies.

You also have Barlean’s The Essential Woman, with flaxseed oil and evening primrose.
I use it in my shakes. It’s my way of getting my omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. And while it hasn’t been proven to be as effective as fish oil, it smells a whole heck of a lot better. The primrose is said to curb the craving for carbohydrates— I’m still waiting for that!

What’s in the containers on the third and fourth shelves?
Cooked broccoli, rice-flour chicken and teriyaki tofu. And shredded goat’s milk cheese for my homemade pizzas—a whole-wheat wrap with Rao’s marinara and cheese is the simplest, fastest, cheapest, and best alternative to ordering out.

Brooke SilerYou stock lemon and lime juice, plus black currant and cranberry.
Lime for guacamole and lemons for everything. It’s one of my favorite flavors. Also, I make a mean organic cosmopolitan where I juice whole limes, peels and all. My husband is British, and Ribena [black currant] is a staple over there. I’m the cranberry fan. It’s good for kidneys, bladder, skin and also a good source of vitamin C. Plus, my organic cosmos wouldn’t be the same without it.

What’s the story with the salad dressings?
I love salads! I crave crunchy, fresh lettuce. The Cindy’s Kitchen dressings from Whole Foods are incredible. I usually water them down a bit because they’re very rich, but the flavors are wonderful.

And are the peanut-choco bars as close as you get to sweets?
Well, there’s also lots of dark chocolate in my bedside table, but you didn’t ask for a picture of that. The peanut-choco bars are actually what I bring with me to events and parties, so that when dessert comes I won’t be tempted to partake and pay the price later from my allergies.
