Chelsea Piers to open organic Stonyfield Cafe with former Jean Georges chef
Chelsea Piers confirmed today that it will add a 3,800-square-foot cafe to its complex this spring that will be operated by popular organic yogurt purveyor Stonyfield Farms.
The Stonyfield Cafe will feature a menu of salads, sandwiches, flatbread pizzas, soups, and (of course), yogurt—made from organic ingredients, many of which will be sourced from local farms. The Cafe will also offer local catering, and will be run by experienced gourmet chef David Seigal, a veteran of Jean Georges and Bouley.
“A healthy setting like Chelsea Piers is the ideal place to open the first Stonyfield Cafe in New York City,” Stonyfield CEO Gary Hirshberg said in a press release.
It’s about time. Although Chelsea Piers is known for its expansive fitness center, ice rink, and rock climbing wall, its food options—like Jason’s Riverside Grill (known for its “juicy burgers”) and Famiglia Pizza—have been less than wholesome.
There isn’t any green juice or quinoa on the menu, but the Stonyfield Cafe is a huge step in the healthy direction. Especially since it will be replacing Ruthy’s Bakery, which previously peddled cheesecake and rugelach to gym goers.
