Can yoga help you get a date?
Yoga can make you lithe and calm, but it can also help you with the wacky world of New York dating, says Brooklyn yoga instructor Daniella Rosales-Friedman.
Rosales-Friedman, who teaches at Bend & Bloom, Mala Yoga, and Go Yoga, is offering a workshop on Saturday, June 30 called “From Manduka to Match: A Yoga Workshop for the Single Girl,” where physical postures, meditation, and discussion will apply yogic principles to first date chit-chat and heartbreak recovery.
The only thing it can’t help you with is avoiding creeps on OkCupid.
“Flexibility and strength are very literal, but they’re also figurative,” she says. “As I got stronger from practicing yoga and could literally hold myself up, I started to also get bolder in relationships. Yoga makes you feel more stable, grounded, and inspired as a single lady.”
And she’s not the only one using a physical practice to aid soulmate seekers. Popular IntenSati instructor Lindsay Davis offered a no-couples-allowed session a few months ago called “Single and Sensational” and will bring the workshop back this August.
At the event, Rosales-Friedman is offering a safe space for sharing (and whining a little) and discovering a new tribe of BFFs who are in it for the same yoga-sisterhood reasons you are. Call her the Gabby Bernstein of yoga.
