Brooklyn Bodyburn brings the Megaformer workout to Williamsburg

Megaformer

The Megaformer workout.

Next year, New York’s hippest ‘hood will get its first taste of Sebastian Lagree’s Megaformer workout, with the opening of Brooklyn Bodyburn on the Williamsburg waterfront.

The fitness method, which involves cardio, strength training, and core work on a souped-up version of the Pilates reformer is one of the West Coast’s hottest workouts, and it first came to New York with the opening of Amanda Freeman’s SLT last year.

Like Freeman, Brooklyn Bodyburn owner (and native New Yorker) Tracy Carlinsky fell in love with the Megaformer in LA and wanted a way to bring it back with her when she decided to move back to Brooklyn.

“I became addicted. I would literally go seven days a week,” Carlinsky says, laughing. “The only reason I didn’t want to leave California was the workout.”

The Edge

Brooklyn Bodyburn will be located on the ground floor of The Edge high rise in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

So, she bought the rights to the borough of Brooklyn, and after trolling neighborhoods like Cobble Hill and Park Slope, settled on Williamsburg, a neighborhood that’s rapidly upping its fitness profile.

“I thought Williamsburg would be perfect—there are so many high-rise buildings and not a lot of fitness studios.” She’s onto something—SoulCycle is opening a studio two blocks away, and Whole Foods is moving in, too.

The L-shaped studio is going into the ground floor of The Edge, a luxury condo complex, and will have lots of natural light from “three huge windows.” It’s got a few sweet amenities, like a changing area with key-code lockers (but no showers), and a juice bar.

The studio will have ten Megaformers, and Carlinsky is planning to host an ambitious 75 classes per week. Bonus: The single class price will be $33 (compared to SLT’s $40).

Brooklyn Bodyburn is planning to celebrate its opening in late January or early February, with a blowout party featuring Lagree himself. After that, you may start to notice a more muscular breed of hipster strolling down Bedford Avenue. —Lisa Elaine Held
