The Week in Wellness: An electric 5K, new fitness and yoga studios, and more

Don’t be the only one at the office this week who doesn’t know which new fitness studio just opened (and is flooded with celebrities) or where that new vegan sushi hotspot is.

We’ll keep you in-the-know with this weekly round-up of the most important wellness news—including fitness and yoga studio openings, celeb juice cleanses, better beauty news, and more:

The Electric Run Tour kicked off this week, bringing LED-lit 5Ks—complete with laser tunnels, neon palm trees, and colored fountains that “dance” to a musical beat—to cities across the country. New York will join the funky fitness party in July 2013.

Brooklyn Bodyburn announced it will bring Sebastian Lagree’s Megaformer workout (known to New Yorkers as SLT) to Williamsburg early next year.

Crunch announced a partnership with Bliss Spa that will place Bliss products in locker rooms and retail shops at all of the gym chain’s locations.

Organic Avenue launched a juice cleanse concierge service and introduced a new holiday menu that includes Love Nog, a Gingerbread Latte, a Gingerbread Cream Sandwich, and a Mint Chocolate Mousse Pie.

The Garden State is hot for the ballet barre: Barre3 opened two new studios in New Jersey and Pure Barre is also slated to open two more soon.

Wellness resort Canyon Ranch released its second fitness DVD, Canyon Ranch: Yoga for Strength & Energy, with two 20-minute routines and bonus features like a recipe booklet.

Terri Walsh launched online classes.

Celeb trainer Terri Walsh launched online workouts in the “A.R.T. virtual studio.” New full-length classes will be added every week, and monthly subscriptions are just $6.99.

Small-batch Brooklyn beauty brand Sprout Skincare changed its name to S.W. Basics of Brooklyn, although the product formulations and packaging will stay the same.

Expanding Brooklyn yoga studio Good Yoga hosted the grand opening of its newest location in Bushwick. The Greenpoint-based company also recently opened a studio in Clinton Hill.

Reflections Yoga added a Corporate Yoga Teacher Training to its schedule. The training, which will take place from December 6-10, teaches chair yoga, office-friendly meditation, and more.

And Aire Ancient Baths added a yoga class-plus-bathing option to its services.

Top trainers at Reebok Sports Club NY are hosting a fitness fundraising event for Sandy relief efforts called Operation Sweat on Sunday, December 9. All the workouts “super-charged” versions of regular classes.
