Physique 57 launches a cardio class

physique 57Popular barre brand Physique 57 is adding a new heart-rate-raising class to its schedule next week.

In Physique Cardio, high-intensity intervals, such as push-ups, planks, and lunges, will be mixed in alongside Physique’s signature sculpting work. “It’s major cardio minus the impact and is designed for maximum calorie burn,” says Physique’s Natasha Attal.

It’s a smart play for the studio, whose loyal clients may spend their aerobic time (and dollars) elsewhere—like in a spin class or on a treadmill. And one of the brand’s major competitors, Exhale’s Core Fusion, already offers a targeted cardio class.

“Clients asked for a more cardio-focused workout,” Attal explains. “But they didn’t want to sacrifice their strength training or didn’t want the repetitive, high-impact motions of other cardio exercises.” (So no jumping jacks here.)

The class will be offered twice a week at New York’s 57th Street location starting January 16 and will be rolled out at other city locations (and in LA) in the near future.
