How to clean your Vitamix

how to clean your Vitamix Add this to the high-class, first world problem list: smoothie build-up in your Vitamix.

With daily use, and a parade of exotic ingredients (coconut milk) and tarnishing spices (turmeric), the Vitamix blender can get crusty and cloudy. Ew.

Yesterday a Vitamix virtuoso tipped us off on how to get our beloved blender shiny and new again. We tried it and it’s magic.

Step 1.  Squeeze the juice of one lime into the Vitamix and add two cups of water. (If you don’t have lime, use two tablespoons of baking soda.)

Step 2. Turn the Vitamix on high and let it run for a solid two minutes.

At this point the water should be hot (the Vitamix acts like a dishwasher), and your blender should be shiny. Think of it as a juice cleanse for your blender. —Jamie McKillop

I just stained my Vitamix tonight making a turmeric, ginger and garlic hot smoothie/tea, will definitely try this out tomorrow – thanks!

I tried this with baking powder then again with the juice of a lemon. it didn’t work, not even a little bit. I have crud from a year of daily use with spinach though. That is tough crud. Bummer.

This worked for me. I used 2 tbsp baking soda, 2 cups water, and ran it on speed 10 for 2 minutes. I didn’t scrub it, but it looked much cleaner. I decided to try it again. Since I have the 750, I added more water the second time because 2 cups doesn’t give a high-enough water line on the 750. Again, I used 2 tbsp of baking soda. This time though, I ran it on the soup setting. Once done, I took a mild brush to it but barely had to scrub. It is now crystal clear.
