New Yorkers are crazy for CrossFit, and in the past few months, the fervor has only gotten more intense.

CrossFit East River opened in the East Village in June, CrossFit Concrete Jungle debuted on the Upper East Side in July, and luxe CrossFit gym Brick opened in early August.

Now, it continues. The city’s original and biggest box, CrossFit NYC, will officially open a 12,000-square-foot location on the Upper West Side in mid-October. The space is currently open to current members only, in “soft launch” mode, and is already at 50 percent capacity. CrossFit NYC is also in the process of building out an additional floor at its Chelsea location and is signing a lease for another space on the Upper East Side.

Meanwhile, Tribeca’s CrossFit 212 is opening a second space, a 5,000-square-foot box on Broadway between Chambers and Reade that will debut on September 19. The gym’s owners told DNAinfo.com that they quickly outgrew their current space and needed to expand in order to meet demand and keep classes small.

At this rate, CrossFit boxes will rival Duane Reades by the year’s end. —Lisa Elaine Held
