RACE INTEL

New York Road Runners announced that 134,000 people applied to run in the 2014 TCS New York City Marathon (in case you missed it, ING has been replaced with TCS as the sponsor). Between 47,500 and 50,000 will actually get to participate in November.

The MORE/FITNESS Half Marathon partnered with New York City running-obsessed jeweler Erica Sara to create “official race jewelry” that can be personalized with finish times.

SoulCycle is starting a scholarship program for teens, reports Elle.com. Gym class is really going to have to up its game.

Flybarre, the sister barre workout to Flywheel, debuts in Los Angeles with a sunlight-filled studio. Yes, we’re jealous.

MEGAFORMER MADNESS

SLT announced its newest studio will open in Roslyn, Long Island on Monday, March 31, and the fast-growing brand says it has plans to open in the Flatiron, and in Scarsdale in Westchester, later this year.

Also this week, Brooklyn Bodyburn revealed it will open a studio in Cobble Hill this June and will upgrade the machines at its original Williamsburg location, too.

HEALTHY FOOD NEWS

East Coast super-salad success story Sweetgreen announced it’s finally heading to the West Coast, with an Los Angeles location opening in West Hollywood in early 2015.

Three new flavors of Health Warrior’s popular Chia Bars hit stores: Mango, Dark Chocolate Cherry, and (seriously delicious) Peanut Butter Chocolate.

HAPPENINGS

Juice Generation founder Eric Helms will be at Williams Sonoma Columbus Circle on Saturday, March 29 at 1:00 p.m. for “Perfect Green Juice” demos and to sign copies of his new book, The Juice Generation.

Lyons Den Power Yoga is hosting a series of classes to benefit The Africa Yoga Project, with live drummers, a documentary screening, and more, on April 1 and 2.
