Happy Place: How about some Floating Meditation?
The only thing better than a meditation pillow? A meditation hammock, of course.
Miraval Resort—the five-star, inner-life spa in Tucson, Arizona—created the calming concept, and recently filled their renovated, sunlight-filled yoga studio with silk-yet-sturdy hammocks for group classes in Floating Meditation. (The hammocks also do double duty for an Aerial Yoga class.)
For the 45-minute class, an instructor guides you into a comfy, almost coddling position in the hammock then leads your mind to a relaxed state.
You’ll experience “the calming benefits of induced meditation,” reads the class description, “while you are gently rocked to the soothing vibrations of crystal bowls.” (Tip: Don’t ever say no to crystal bowls, whose sound vibrations are said to be mega healing.)
And the class has its mega fans: “Words are inadequate,” says a Colorado guest, Susan B. “The multi-sensory feelings of being suspended in the air, slowly rocking, and crystal bowls singing combine into something more profound than the parts alone. It’s as though you’re in a cocoon of total support to allow peace to flow into your entire being.” Ahhh.
Channel this as your happy place today when your boss hands you a new batch of work and your colleagues turn your “quick catch-up meeting” into a summit. —Melisse Gelula
