We recap everything earth-shattering that happened in health and wellness this week: September 7–13, 2013.

COMING SOON

The New York Times reported that Pier 57 is being redesigned as a “SuperPier,” and its tenants will include a new outpost of rock climbing-gym Brooklyn Boulders and an outsize Andre Balazs beach club and spa. The hotelier says it will have the indoor and outdoor space of his Standard Spa in Miami but not “it’s thumping music and club atmosphere.”

FITNESS

A memorial was held in St. Patrick’s Cathedral for Romana Kryzanowska, the instructor widely credited with passing on Joseph Pilates’ legacy and popularizing the now ubiquitous workout method.

Tracy Anderson told The Cut that her trainers are currently training cast members on the set of Girls, but that they’re not allowed to “transform” Lena Dunham’s body.

Planet Fitness announced it will open its 27th New York location on Monday, September 16, on Broadway at Bowling Green. Apparently the Wall Street world is itching for $10 a month gym memberships?

FOOD AND JUICE

Heather Tierney’s downtown juice bar and cafe The Butcher’s Daughter opened a take-out shop and market next door to its main storefront.

The expanding chain Elixir Juice Bar opened a new cafe on the Upper East Side at Park Avenue and 78th Street on Monday.

And the booming national juice brand Suja debuted a line of blended smoothies called Suja Elements.

FASHION WEEK

New York Fashion Week 2013 wrapped up on Thursday, but not before some natural beauty brands made their mark.

Priti NYC was a sponsor of the week and its non-toxic polishes were featured on numerous runways, while celeb facialist Joanna Vargas used her skin-care products on models backstage.

Green juice was also everywhere at Fashion Week. Cooler Cleanse was backstage at Carmen Marc Valvo’s show, BluePrint gave out juices at a “recharge station,” the Council of Fashion Designers of America gave out coupons to Organic Avenue, Juice Press refueled models and makeup artists at Alexander Wang and Rag & Bone backstage, and Marie Claire created a juice truck outside with Juice Generation.

CalaveraHAPPENINGS

Roslyn’s new Practice Body Mind Soul is hosting a Grand Opening celebration September 20–22, with workshops, trunk shows, and more.

Celeb wellness stars Tara Stiles, Gabrielle Bernstein, and more are speaking at Fertility Planit 2013, a fertility-boosting symposium, this Sunday, September 15.

Flavorpill is hosting a free mega outdoor yoga event at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens on Sunday, September 15, with Elena Brower teaching.

LA-based celebrity trainer Lacey Stone will be back in New York from September 23–27 for New York Sweat Week, a five-day series of outdoor boot camps.

On the West Coast, surf-inspired swimwear line Calavera is hosting “Keep a Breast,” a free evening of surf lessons and beach yoga for breast cancer survivors on September 18 at Santa Monica Beach.
