The Star Soulcycle Instructor With a Twice-a-Day Acai Habit—and a Superfit Sibling Rivalry

Welcome to Wellness Confidential, our quick-fire interview series where we ask hard-hitting (okay, entertaining) wellness questions, lightning round-style.

Today we're quizzing Akin Akman, the popular fitness founder of Akins Army, and star SoulCycle instructor whose challenging classes, spot-on playlists, and dreamy looks have earned him a super-enthusiastic fan base, in-studio and online.

First thing I did when I woke up this morning

After my alarm went off at 5 a.m., I immediately pulled on my gym clothes, brushed my teeth, and ran out the door to teach my 6 a.m., 7 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. classes in Soho.

Most people probably don't know this about me, but

I have two herniated discs in my lower back!

The workout I’m currently obsessed with

I love taking Yavuz Akman's SoulCycle class. (Yes, he is my brother!) My classes are tough and he teaches like me, so he pushes me harder than anyone else.

My go-to spot for date night with my BF/GF/BFFs

I live at SoulCycle. All my friends come to my classes!

The one wellness trend you’ll never see me try

I will never try a juice cleanse. I teach and work out so much that my body needs fuel.

The one place I’d never wear yoga pants

I was invited to a red carpet event in honor of Valentino. I didn't wear sweatpants, I wore a suit, but I do have a pair of sweatpants from Prada that have a tuxedo stripe on them. I almost wore [them].

If I were a fruit or vegetable, I’d be

Acai berries because they are a superfood—and because I eat acai bowls twice a day so I pretty much am one at this point.

The one song that I’ve been playing on repeat

I have two favorites right now—Styline's Rose (original mix) and A$AP Ferg and Future's New Level.

The one beauty product that I’m always replenishing

Resurfacing Wipes by Anthony. I use them after every class.

My most memorable sweaty moment is

When I played in the International Tennis Federation tournament finals in Aruba. I was so sweaty that when I was serving I lost my grip on my racket and ended up throwing it to the ground. It was the sweatiest I've ever been and I broke my favorite racket. I'll never forget it.

If sugar was a superfood, my diet would consist of

Cookie dough ice cream. It's my favorite!
