Athleisure has been taking notes from the past for a while now—'70s throwback, anyone?—but there's one decade that is unequivocally driving all corners of the fashion industry, from the runway to the gym: the '90s.
Of course, some of the trendiest style revivals aren't exactly appropriate for boot camp. (Think chokers, velvet, or anything else that looks like it came from the Friends wardrobe trailer.) But the bulk of the '90s-inspired looks dominating Instagram—from track pants to Calvin Klein sports bras—are undeniably rooted in activewear. And the women going all-in on the trend range from up-and-coming it-girl (I'm looking at you, Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid) to OG status. Yes, even Kate Moss is excited about her Adidas kicks.
That means not only can you wear them to your workout, but you can also knock around in them on the weekend and have the #OOTD of a supermodel. Get a Clinton back in the White House, and you'll be partying like it's 1999.
Scroll down to see the '90s-inspired athleisure items that you'll want to have in your closet this fall.
Calvin Klein High Neck Tank Top, $49
Calvin Klein has made a massive comeback as lingerie has gone less vampy and more comfy. While some of the brand's sporty bras are perfect to wear under a tank for yoga class, lots of it-girls are rocking them solo with denim or high-waisted leggings. Not that brave? Try one with a longer line, like the style above.
Adidas Supergirl Track Pants, $60
When Tory Sport unveiled her fall 2016 collection—featuring those flared track pants—it seemed to set the tone for the entire season. Now the style is absolutely everywhere, and even Adidas' OG trackies have made a comeback (now with a chic slim fit and fans like Bella Hadid).
Adidas Originals Gazelle, $80
After the massive success of other sneakers from its Originals line—I mean, who doesn't have a pair of Stan Smiths at this point?—Adidas decided to revamp its most popular '90s style. Instead of relaunching the original campaign with a current celeb, like Calvin Klein did with Justin Bieber, the brand simply updated its classic ad featuring '90s poster girl Kate Moss. Look for a whole new range of special-edition colors, some of which are exclusive to retailers like Urban Outfitters.
Juicy Couture Black Label Jogger Pants, $88
Yes, everyone's go-to airport look in the late '90s/early 2000s is staging a major comeback, starting with this exclusive Bloomingdale's collaboration. In celebration of the tracksuit's 21st birthday, Juicy Couture has amped up its social media activity, even starting the hashtag #trackisback on Instagram. Paging Paris Hilton and Britney Spears....
Nike Air Max 90, $175
While sneakers have gotten sleeker and sleeker over the years, the return of the '90s in fashion has—surprisingly to some—brought bulky, cushioned kicks (AKA dad shoes) back into style. Nike, for one, is reintroducing its Air Max collection for the style's 20th anniversary, featuring wide midsoles that nod to the super-cushioned sneaker trend.
Fila x UO Rib Trim Sweater, $95
When this throwback collaboration was announced last year, Urban Outfitters cemented the '90s revival in a major way. Fila—which featured primary colors and classic designs back in the day—didn't exactly go away like some of its compatriots, but this collab with such a tastemaking retailer is giving it serious life.
Vetements Printed Cotton Hoody, $1,050
Everyone from Selena Gomez and Rihanna to the entire Kardashian/Jenner family has been rocking this oversized sweatshirt. Can't fathom paying a grand for something so simple? You're not alone—the popularity of these silhouettes has caused an uptick in similar (and cheaper) styles, along with a resurgence in Champion sweatshirts.
