For a weekend out in Dallas—which ranged between 40 and 60 degrees in January—I brought my Outdoor Voices Primo Fleece. Made of recycled fleece and polyester, this hoodie kept me warm and toasty when temperatures dipped at night. As a short girlie, I always appreciate a crop fit, and this hoodie has an elasticated, cinchable waist, which gives me shape (albeit the slightly oversized fit). The hood shelters my ears when it gets windy, and I can count on the quarter-zip to lock in extra warmth. Another notable feature is the kangaroo-like pockets; it holds my phone, wallet, keys, and chapstick for whenever I’m on the move. It’s now my go-to for travel adventures and city walks.

For days when I’m feeling bold, I’ll bust out Free People Movement’s Hit the Slopes Jacket. What draws me to this button-up fleece is the flower-like print design, which stands out in my sea of solid colored jackets. While this particular design is sold out in most sizes, there are nine other patterns to choose from. This jacket goes beyond its looks, though. It’s ultra warm on its own, and when paired with a light puffer coat, I start sweating profusely. Other notable features of this jacket: It has deep pockets for storing essentials and elasticated cuffs to lock in warmth. So far, I’ve taken this coat on outdoor walks and grocery runs, and it has held up during chilly weather. Trust me, wind and chills are no match for this jacket.

I’ve been rocking North Face coats since high school, but I’ve never given its fleece a try. After testing the Extreme Pile Full-Zip Jacket for a month, I am nothing short of amazed. Constructed out of a blend of sherpa fleece and polyester, this jacket alone keeps me warm at temperatures as low as 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Double-lined, the jacket features a sherpa exterior and a non-fleece interior lining, multiplying the warmth. In total, the jacket has three pockets: one chest pocket for smaller ticket-items (think: credit card or chapstick) and two side pockets that are big enough for keeping my hands warm. All in all, it’s my most versatile jacket and can be used for hiking, walking, or a jog outside.

Another North Face jacket, the Future Fleece is a lightweight zip-up outerwear piece that supports my active lifestyle. While on the thinner side of fleece jackets, I love taking this zip-up with me out on runs, walks, and indoor gym sessions, and can envision it with me during hikes during the warmer seasons. Lightweight, the jacket is composed of a blend of polyester and recycled polyester and has a full zipper, making it easy to wear and take off. Additionally, it comes with a zippered, chest pocket that’s large enough to stow away a credit card, keys, or other small items. As someone who gets cold easily, the hood also comes in clutch. If you’re looking for any active, outdoor fleece, I can’t recommend the Future Fleece enough.

If a blanket and jacket had a baby, it would be Eddie Bauer’s Fireside Plush Fleece. While only single-lined, the fleece (made out of 100 percent polyester) delivers coziness and warmth the second I put it on. What’s great about this fleece is that is features a quarter zipper to vent hot air when things get toasty and cuffed sleeves. One aspect about this fleece to note is that the small ran on the longer side, but there’s nothing a tuck-in can’t fix.

Known for it’s environment- and size-friendly athleisurewear, Girlfriend Collective is showing up with more than just flattering leggings. The brand’s fleece department is on point, and I got to test its Teddy Half-Zip Fleece. This style is made from a whopping 100 percent recycled plastic bottles, reducing waste while allowing me to stay cozy. Yes, it’s giving innovative, teddy bear vibes. What stands out about this fleece are the two vertical zippers, both of which share the same pocket. The pocket is huge, allowing me to store all of my essentials before I head out for a walk or run without the fear of my essentials falling out. The cuffed sleeves are also a nice touch, and it doesn’t feel like the sweater is overwhelming my frame. Worth the dollar bills? 100 percent.

The bright color, snuggle-like fit, and kangaroo pocket—what’s not to love about Target’s Joy Lab High Pile Fleece? It’s one of my warmest fleeces, and it’s right for the price. I’ve worn this pullover out in the city, and it has kept me toasty during 30 degrees Fahrenheit, allowing me to ditch my bulky coat. Featuring a tie-waist and cuffed sleeves, I can easily cinch the fleece to give me more shape. Plus, the quarter-length zipper enables me to bundle up without having to tag in my scarf. Warning: I haven’t taken it off since, and you won’t either.
