The Summer Activity That Beats Watching Netflix at Home
This summer, you can do just that at Samsung 837, the high-tech community space nestled along the Hudson River in NYC's Meatpacking District. It's all part of the Made for Summer event series, which includes a Saturday Run Club, live concerts on Thursdays, and a Wednesday-evening lineup of Netflix Nights.
We hit up a showing of Netflix's new girl-power saga, GLOW. The amped-up show about a troupe of women wrestlers is basically an ode to believing in yourself, with a healthy dose of badass female friendships and '80s power hair. And yes, it's also the series that got Alison Brie to quit cardio in favor of strength-training—worthy of a fist-bump emoji, for sure. After two episodes, the crowd (a mix of night-on-the-town types in cocktail attire and messy-bunned squads in full chill mode) was sold.
The breezy setup includes striped hammock-like chairs (ridiculously comfy), cabanas, surfboards, and even a sand castle.
The action goes down on the aforementioned rooftop, a breezy setup complete with striped hammock-like chairs (ridiculously comfy), cabanas, surfboards, and even a sand castle (basically, full-on summer vibes). Once you zip up the elevator to the swanky scene, you're greeted by sweeping views of the Hudson and a bag of popcorn. You can even take a selfie with the Samsung Galaxy S8 in the photo booth: a giant frame of the smartphone poised in front of the sunset.
And it is definitely high-tech. With a next-level sound system and large high-def Samsung TV, this screening beats your at-home viewing experience by miles. Plus, with the fifth-story breeze, you won't even miss your air conditioning.
Want more ways to make the most of your summer? Stop by Samsung 837's Netflix Nights on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. and check out the full lineup of the Made for Summer series, as well as VR experiences and art installations powered by the Galaxy S8 open seven days a week.
