This Scandinavian-Inspired Hotel in the Midwest Is a Dreamy Hygge Getaway
The Hewing Hotel, which opened last year in a former farm-tools warehouse in downtown Minneapolis, is filled with the stuff of Denmark-inspired dreams (and Instagram filters): reclaimed-wood beams, leather furniture, and custom-made wool throws; a toasty fireplace in the lobby; handmade rugs; and a chic-but-not-at-all-pretentious bar scene. There's even a hygge cocktail (yes, it's actually called that) made with gin and toasted cardamom available at the rooftop bar, so you can literally drink in the cozy vibes.
The hotel pays tribute to the Scandinavian heritage of the Twin Cities at its accompanying restaurant Tullibee, where the menu is "influenced by rural Nordic practices of foraging, butchery, and fermentation techniques and heavily driven by seasonality," according to the website. The whole rainbow trout with kale, fennel, zucchini, quinoa, and grapes sounds especially inspired—and omega-3 packed.
If the thought of going on a snuggle-filled getaway without your favorite cuddle buddy is less than enticing, fear not because the hotel is totally pet-friendly. (You'll even get complimentary dog treats for your furry BFF.)

The hotel rooftop is open year round (even though it's in Minnesota) and features a 20-person Finnish detoxifying cedar sauna—a visit to which might lower your blood pressure or even lead to a love connection—and fire pits. Umm, yeah, see you there.
All that's left to do is pack. Here are the softest sweaters, socks, bras, and coats you'll need—er, want—to bring along.
