Mothers are charged with so much responsibility, and this is especially true when it comes to care, both for themselves and their families. In the most recent episode of The Well + Good Podcast, Well + Good team members who happen to be moms (or moms-to-be) shared what motherhood means to them and opened up about how their definitions of wellness have changed since stepping into the role of motherhood.

Wellness routines became simpler during motherhood

"Motherhood has changed my approach to wellness; I see it as more simple than before. Any time to myself is good, and I have been going back to basics. Postpartum taught me a lot about how medication could be part of that." — Jen Jeffries, Sr. director of business operations

The word "mom" means something different each day

"Mom can mean something each day; having that mindset can be great for me and my journey isn't linear. Something that it's important to me is to spend quality time with people I love and do activities with people like cooking. The days are so hectic, having that thing that can recenter you. Motherhood has changed my idea of wellness these days because time is just different, and so a nice shower is helpful for me, and that counts as wellness for me." — Kendall Bryant, director of product

Movement and spending time together are priorities

"My mom and dad start every day for a walk on the trails, and I love to join them. Every Saturday, they go to the farmer's market and know the people well. I want to teach my kids how to enjoy moving and [take time] to enjoy it." — Jennifer Heimlich, senior fitness editor

Personal decisions have a bigger impact now

"My approach to wellness has become less rigid and scheduled because I am trying to listen to my body and mind. If I need rest then I think my baby would probably benefit from that too. This also goes for nutrition and socializing, I am thinking about how my decisions impact more than just me." —Alexis Berger, lifestyle director
