The Pippa Packable Puffer Coat Has Over 22,000 Likes, and It’s an Absolute Dream To Travel With
All my girlfriends love to joke around about my adoration of all things Free People. After being asked over and over again where my clothes are from, they’ve come to expect that nine times out of 10, my response will be Free People. So much so that now they don’t even wait for me to respond—one will ask, and before I have a chance to say a peep, another will say "Free People." What can I say? I’m a devoted fan of the brand. It’s because of this that I check the daily arrivals page on my app well, just about every day. In doing so, I’ve watched as one particular item has risen to shopper-favorite status.
Allow me to introduce you to the FP Movement Pippa Packable Puffer ($198). As a writer, I was immediately struck by the alliteration; as a color lover, I was instantly enamored with the 16-color shade range this rather unassuming jacket is sold in. Yet, I remained on the fence about whether or not to add the compact outerwear to my closet. Of course, then I noticed that the likes had skyrocketed to over 22,000 and shopper reviews were just racking up, and just like that, I had my answer.
The Pippa Packable Puffer coat is a performance puffer designed with PrimaLoft® Insulation (a synthetic, down-alternative that’s warm but not bulky). It features a relaxed, dolphin-hemmed, boxy silhouette that layers just as easily over form-fitting gymwear as it does thick sherpa pullovers. I say this from experience, as I’ve worn it over my Lululemon Love Tank Tops, as well as my Target Joy Lab Women’s High Pile Fleece ½ Zip Pullover. In both cases, I’ve been warm and totally mobile, without feeling the slightest bit restricted. (FYI: I’m generally a 12/14/XL but at FP, I can wear anything from a S to an XL, depending on the garment. For this jacket, the XL is great.)
Roominess aside, the warmth factor really is remarkable with this ultra-lightweight coat. From touch (and honestly looks) alone, you wouldn’t think that it’d be that much of a barrier between you and the cold, but somehow, some way, it is. I’ve worn it layered over thick sweatshirts in the mid-20s and over shortsleeve tops and tanks in the 30s and 40s, and I’ve always been totally unbothered by the cold as a result.

The best part is that this coat is an absolute dream for travel. It has an interior pocket that the entire coat actually folds into, so you can easily pack it in a personal item or carry-on—or it can double as a travel pillow while en route.
Now, two things to note: First, not all the Pippa Packable Puffers are listed in the same product listing. While the 16 solid colors are at the link above, there is also the Printed Pippa Packable Puffer Jacket ($228) that's sold in four prints, as well as the brand-new, absolutely stunning Time To Shine Pippa Packable Puffer Jacket ($228), which looks like a metallic oil slick. There are also cropped and pullover versions. Suffice to say: If you’re looking for a warm layering option that can easily be worn over or under other garments, it’s time to make room for a Pippa Packable in your closet.
