How “the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” BFF Co-Stars Are Fighting the Patriarchy
But IRL, the former co-stars' pants of choice took a back seat to their altruistic #squadgoals. In a recent Instagram post by America Ferrera, the group (Blake Lively, Alexis Bledel, and Amber Tamblyn, alongside Ferrera) joined a legion of other celebrities committed to Time's Up, an initiative to fight sexual harassment in the workplace. Since its recent launch, the movement's GoFundMe page has already raised more than $14 million for its legal defense fund, just $1 million shy of its final goal.
"Starting the New Year off with blessings from my Sisterhood. We’ve got work to do for the next generation. Let’s get to it. #TIMESUP." —America Ferrera
"Starting the New Year off with blessings from my Sisterhood. We’ve got work to do for the next generation. Let’s get to it. #TIMESUP," Ferrera wrote in the caption, echoing Hollywood heroines like Natalie Portman, Reese Witherspoon, and Emma Stone.
The actress's shout-out to the movement couldn't be more timely, for personal reasons: On January 1st, 33-year old Ferrera announced that she and her husband, actor Ryan Piers Williams, are expecting. With a baby on the way, Ferrera has an even more pressing reason to rally for progress with her fellow #BossBabes.
With the prominence and widespread support of programs like Time's Up, hopefully the era of #MeToo will be nothing but a history lesson by the time the next generation enters the workforce.
