Though historical and heritage experiences remain as the largest travel priorities, aquatic activities dominated half of the top 10 fastest-growing categories. Sunset cruises were up 89 percent in bookings, followed by snorkeling (69 percent), sailing (55 percent), catamaran cruises (51 percent), and kayaking and canoeing (49 percent). Instead of taking a trip with the goal of basking in the vitamin D by sunbathing (hey, there's no shame in napping on the beach!), travelers are using their time off from work to have fun out on the water rather than alongside it.
So the next time you're planning a trip, book a water-centric activity to see what all the fuss is about, and leave room in your carry-on for plenty of cute bathing suits. Sure, make time to wander through a renowned museum and see buzzy artwork, but remember that snorkeling with tropical fish and learning how to sail are likely experiences you'll never forget.
