Goodbye, Molly. Hello, Cacao?

Imagine you're at a party and someone asks you to do a line. Of chocolate. Yep, it's happening. According to Ozy, cacao is the latest party drug of choice, replacing alcohol and illegal drugs like molly and ecstasy in parts of Europe.

If you've ever indulged in a cacao truffle, you probably noticed feeling a little peppier, and that feeling makes sense: cacao has iron, protein, and magnesium, which are all energy-boosting. Now imagine that feeling from your little snack, but way stronger. That's what happens when cacao is ingested—either straight as a powder or mixed in a drink—completely raw. Ozy reports that the magnesium calms the body, while the flavanols increase blood circulation and stimulate brain power. Cacao also contains tryptophan, which creates serotonin. The combination effect is a total mood booster, and the perfect dance party primer.

But now the big question. Is it safe? Real talk: No doctor is going to recommend snorting anything to get high—even if it's "just" a cacao high. And as IFL Science points out, the fad is so new that researchers haven't taken a deep dive into the effects yet. Until they do, you can always smuggle a few dark chocolate squares into the club: you'll be smarter, more heart-healthy, and you'll wake up the next day remembering everything perfectly.

Speaking of party drugs: Would you believe that marijuana can boost your workout? Or, if this whole conversation has just left you wanting a little cacao—to eat, not snort—these cacao balls are calling your name
