How to Rock This Foliage-Inspired Crystal Hue in Your Hair This Fall
Maybe it's a holdover from the many years you spent going back-to-school shopping and planning the perfect first-day-of-school outfit, but fall always feels like a great time to try a new look. As the leaves change, so does your skin-care routine, your wardrobe, and, if you're feeling bold, your hair.
Last winter, all the cool girls were rocking the tiger-eye balayage, but this season, it's all about another crystal-inspired shade (one that matches the bright autumn foliage). Enter the carnelian hair trend.
"Carnelian's a bright orange gemstone, so it can be difficult to add these colors to your hair while keeping a natural look," says James Lyons, colorist at New York City's Broome & Beauty salon. But it can be done: Just look at Bryce Dallas Howard, Sansa Stark (actress Sophie Turner is blonde IRL), and Amy Adams.
"The easiest way to add a small taste of the fall-favorite crystal to your existing color would be with a gloss over highlights, adding a more copper-orange tone to the root and mid area."

If you want to go all-out with your carnelian look, Lyons recommends starting with an all-over copper color and adding blonde highlights with balayage. "This way, you can have a strong copper base with ribbons of blonde mimicking the stones," he says. Your 'do will literally rock (had to).
As is usually the case when trying something new, Lyons suggests bringing in pictures of the stone so your colorist can get a clear idea of what you're looking for. Or, just show them the below photos.
