The 9 Spring Activewear Items That You’re About to See Everywhere
Time to pack away your wind chill-proof leggings and shearling sneakers—now that the spring equinox has come and gone, there's a whole new crop of buzzy, warm weather-ready activewear items gunning for front-and-center position in your closet (and your sweaty selfies).
Not sure where to start? According to industry insiders, a few items are already emerging as must-haves.
This season's most anticipated tights and tops are definitely not for the understated. (Imagine that your tried-and-true styles decided to go a little wild, spring break-style.) From shiny, star-print leggings to ruffled sneakers and architectural windbreakers, these are looks that can't help but attract attention.
In other words, if they don't already have a wait list, they will soon—so you better get 'em before everyone else in your boot camp does.
Scroll down for the 9 activewear pieces predicted to be most popular for spring 2017.
Ultracor x Bandier Star Legging, $196
Nobody does an activewear collab quite like Bandier. The retailer's latest tag-team effort? A 6-piece collection with high-performance leggings line Ultracor, which is known for its superhero-esque star tights. Five new, Bandier-exclusive hues are already proving to be smash hits—they racked up a 500-person online wait list two weeks before their on-site debut. (The queue's now closed, but you can still try to score a pair since they've just launched this week.)
Sweaty Betty Stability Wetsuit Top, $165
Sweaty Betty's not traditionally known as a surf brand, but wetsuits were actually a massive success for the company last year, selling out quickly in stores on both coasts. And judging by the forecasts for 2017, this top's about to do the same. Made from lightweight technical scuba material, it's designed to keep your body temperature regulated in the ocean—but the print's so cool, you'll probably want to keep it on out of the water, too.
Lululemon Fast and Free 7/8 Tight, $128
The latest launch from Canada's OG athleisure brand are these cropped leggings made with Lululemon's newest fabric technology, Nulux. With a "naked" feel against the skin, the Fast and Free is intentionally designed to minimize distractions to enhance performance. (See ya later, chafing!) Plus, this particular pant has reflective details, making it perfect for a late-night run or a black-lit studio class.
Tory Sport Ruffle Sneaker, $225
This shoe first made an appearance during the brand's spring '17 fashion show last fall, but it didn't go on sale until March—when it generated major buzz. A feminine play on preppy white kicks, Tory Burch insiders expect this style to follow in its track pant cousin's footsteps, selling out faster than you can say "40-love."
Carbon38 Bleeker Jacket, $265
While there was huge hoopla surrounding the launch of the entire Carbon38 ready-to-wear collection, this piece is the one that officially dropped the mic. "The Bleeker jacket has been so popular because our customers love its versatility and style," explains Lisa Kraynak, the chief marketing officer at Carbon38. "It's very on-trend and has a sleek look that can be worn out at night or during the day." Indeed, this is one of those items that can make even messy hair and no makeup look utterly chic.
Aday Brakes On Legging, $95
This new style may not have the rabid following of Aday's Throw & Roll legging, but the brand's co-founder Nina Faulhaber say that it's becoming a slow-and-steady winner in its own right. "We think of [these leggings] as the 'underdog,' because while they're not as visual, we're dropping new production batches every four weeks—we can’t keep them on the shelves," she divulges. (Under-$100 leggings FTW!)
P.E Nation Mountain Crop, $77
What do Khloé Kardashian and Kayla Itsines have in common? For starters, they're both fans of P.E Nation—and it's easy to imagine both of them rocking this sporty, yet sexy bra top. Those behind the scenes at the Aussie brand say it's on track to be the best-selling top of the season, thanks to its graphic, retro '70s vibes. Layer it underneath an on-trend mesh top now, and then wear it solo when the mercury starts rising.

Alo Yoga Ripped Warrior Legging, $125
Alo's got a knack for churning out superstar styles, which gain a following thanks to a die-hard fan base of social media-savvy yoga instructors and celebs. The new Ripped Warrior Legging is spring's current best-seller, which means it'll be dominating healthy Instagram before much longer. (In case you were wondering: Yes, the shredded trend is still going strong.)
Koral Frame Leggings, $135
While the mesh-inset Frame style isn't new—it's been a top seller at Koral for years—fans are flipping out all over again over the recent release of an all-white iteration. As Koral co-founder and creative director Ilana Kugel explains, "The newly introduced white color was created to bring about a feeling of purity, light, and confidence with the change of seasons." Not to mention that they're the perfect blank canvas for a pair of throwback sneakers.
