Dyson’s Most Powerful Cordless Vacuum Features a Dirt-Detecting Laser
"People assume that if they can’t see dirt, dust, and nasties on their floor that there aren’t any there, but in fact, it’s the things you can’t see that are the ones you need to worry about, because these half-micron sized smoke particles lying on the floor are the ones that will damage your lungs,” Sir James Dyson, the brand’s founder, previously told Well+Good. “[The vacuum] sends out a beam in front of the cleaning head so you can see the dust, and when you stop seeing the dust in the laser, you know the floor is truly clean.”
The V15 is Dyson's most powerful cordless stick vacuum. It features a fluffy cleaner head with a precisely angled green laser that makes it easier to spot debris you might otherwise miss. (Green is the most visible color to the human eye, thus enhancing the contrast and making dust more visible.) This laser-equipped head is designed for high-performance cleaning of hard-surface floors.
In addition to a laser that makes it easier to see dust, the Dyson V15 features a sensor that's able to count and measure the size of dust particles and communicates what it counts 15,000 times a second. When more dust is detected, the vacuum is able to react and increase its suction. While telling the vacuum how to adjust its suction, the dust particles are also sorted by size. This information is communicated through an LED screen that tells you exactly what you picked up and how much. The battery holds a charge long enough to run up to 60 minutes on three cleaning modes (eco, auto, and boost).

The Dyson V15 Detect ($700) comes with seven cleaning heads: the laser-equipped slim fluffy head; a high torque head to remove dust and hair from all floor types; an anti-tangle hair brush-head; a crevice tool; a stubborn dirt brush that features stiff nylon bristles; a mini soft dusting brush; and a combo brush that makes switching between tasks simple.
The Dyson V15 Detect+ ($750) includes all of the above except the crevice tool (instead it comes with a built-in crevice tool and a separate combo crevice tool with an optional brush head) as well as a low-reach adaptor to allow you to comfortably use the attachments below furniture. The Detect+ has HEPA filtration, something that isn't part of the Dyson V15 Detect but that cleaning experts say is a must for vacuums that promote healthy indoor air quality.

"Using a vacuum with a HEPA filter can trap nearly 100 percent of airborne particles, which is especially helpful for those that have asthma or allergies,” cleaning expert Georgia Dixon previously told Well+Good.
