This New Netflix Series Could Help You Reach Your Chic French-Girl #goals in 2018

Nearly two decades ago, Sex and the Citys Carrie Bradshaw lived out the fantasy of single girls everywhere when her dashing boyfriend whisked her away for a new life in Paris. Alas, her true happily ever after took her back to the states, leaving a baguette-shaped hole in the hearts of Francophiles everywhere.

Now, at long last, Netflix is coming to the rescue with a new original half-hour comedy series centered around the trials and tribulations of an actual French girl named Elsa, Deadline reports. Confused as to why she is unlucky in love, Elsa's well-meaning friends hire her a male escort to rebuild her confidence. Hilarious, albeit chic, inevitably ensues.

As you may tend to think of all French women as being confident—effortlessly-styled, never dieting, and forever glowing despite a lack of visible makeup—Elsa may provide a welcome reprieve from this impossibly aspirational stereotype.

What's more, director Noémie Saglio plans to challenge tropes with respect to what it's like to be a woman in your thirties. "Netflix gives creative freedom to writers and directors to express themselves from beginning to end—with this show in particular, the freedom to showcase people in their thirties as realistic and sweet as they are funny,” she said in a statement on the company's website. “Also in my thirties, this is the occasion for me to speak about all the ways to be a woman in today’s world." Oui! 

And given that the show is to be directed and produced by French filmmakers, you can expect each episode to feel like an insider's guide to the city, one to which you may refer when planning the itinerary for your next trip. "This show is a fun and modern romantic story that will bring viewers into the energy of today’s Paris," said Erik Barmack, Netflix's VP of international originals.

As an added bonus, the series is to be shot in the native tongue of France, so you can use it as a means for practicing the language before you voyage abroad. While this highly anticipated addition to your Netflix binge queue doesn't yet have a release date, you can expect to take a trip to Paris sometime in 2018, even if it's just a digital journey.
