The “Cosmic Spring” Is Here: Why the Season of Renewal Is Super-Charged Right Now
The flowers are blooming and the days are getting longer, and the season of new beginnings is also amplified by the cosmos this year, says astrologer Jennifer Racioppi. Here's why springtime is getting an extra celestial boost, and it's like a "cosmic spring" is happening alongside the one down here on Earth. Here's how to tune in to its power.
As we settle into the post-Mercury retrograde reality (Mercury initially went retrograde on March 5, and after a few weeks of a tumultuous ride, the planet of communication stationed direct on March 28) we do so with Mars, the planet of action, now in the sign of Gemini.
Mars moving into Gemini on March 31 opens the doors to a fresh start. Think of it this way: We find ourselves in Aries season—the sun travels in Aries from March 20 to April 20—and Mars rules Aries, the sign of new beginnings and fresh starts (hello astrological new year). So, as we go through this season of awakening, Mars’ location in the sky tells the story of how we’ll do during this time of emergence.
Mars moving into Gemini on March 31 opens the doors to a fresh start. The energy will feel fast, perhaps even like a roller coaster, however, ultimately helping you to find your way.
Up until now, Mars has traveled in Taurus, a fixed earth sign—Mars entered Taurus on Valentine's Day—and Taurus is not its favorite part of the zodiac. Think of it this way: Mars likes speed and action, and Taurus doesn’t. Mars traveling through Taurus can bring feelings of frustration, as our ambitions can feel held back at a time when we are hungry for movement.

Now we find Mars in Gemini, the sign of mutable air, ready to rumble—making the remaining days of Aries season far more malleable, and potentially productive. On the downside though, Mars in Gemini can feel a wee bit crazy-making too, especially as Mercury clears its retrograde shadow. Gemini, a sign famously known for a fickle disposition, can influence Mars in such a way that things feel unsettled—decisions that felt solid are now up for review. My advice? Embrace it. The energy will feel fast, perhaps even like a roller coaster, however, ultimately helping you to find your way.
Plus: when Mercury met Neptune...
Speaking of Mercury, on April 2 Mercury and Neptune conjoin one more time in the sign of Pisces, amplifying feelings of compassion and empathy. While this transit can have things feeling blurry, it’s inviting us to travel more deeply into our imagination, and our emotional intelligence. The moon wanes back to new this week—the new moon at 15 degrees of Aries occurs on April 5 at 4:50 a.m. Eastern—meaning Monday through Friday provides the perfect opportunity to reconcile your retrograde lessons.
Ask yourself this: What did you learn over the last few weeks? Knowing this now, how do you want to move forward? Now’s the time to claim the lessons and discard what you no longer need.
The new moon in Aries commences a fresh beginning, and you want to initiate this cycle with clarity, focus, and resolve.
The new moon in Aries commences a fresh beginning, and you want to initiate this cycle with clarity, focus, and resolve. New moons are the most potent time of the month to set intentions and work your muscles of manifestation to conjure and create your desired outcomes, and this particle new moon brings a fertile fresh start. I encourage embracing it with the same reverence as you would a birthday, as it’s the first new moon since the sun moved into Aries. Especially now with Mars in Gemini, it’s time to get going on your soul goals.
When it comes to wellness, now’s the time for a restart. Consider doing a light cleanse, ramping up your cardiovascular, getting up and out in the morning for a walk before your workday. Even with the moon waning for the majority of the time, a time typically known for slow melancholic moods, this week brings a high fast tempo with potentially upbeat vibes. So, tap into them, and use them to your advantage.
