The One Wellness Beverage Kristen Bell Relies on to Kick-Start Her Day
Welcome to My Morning Routine, where Kristen Bell and other good-life gurus share their personal (frequently surprising, often healthy) morning rituals—to help you make your a.m.’s more awesome.

Actress, mother of two, and partner for Tide Purclean's Earth Day #CleanPledge
I usually wake up to blood-curdling screams, and I'm positive it's because someone's arm has been broken, but really it's just what happens when a child's eyes open first thing in the morning. I rush frantically to my kids' bedrooms, see that everyone is safe, and I'm usually met with a "Good morning, Mommy!"
I try to have as little interaction with my children as possible before I have some matcha, so our relationship is preserved. I like coffee, but it gives me a slump after 30 minutes, so I switched to matcha about a year ago and I love it. I use hot flax milk instead of water because tea on an empty stomach makes me feel puke-y. The whole thing feels very ceremonial with the little bowl and whisk.
After I make my matcha, I make my kids breakfast. They love these little flavored oatmeal cups from Bob's Red Mill. For breakfast, I usually have their leftover half-bowls of oatmeal for myself so it isn't wasted.

If I start to feel like I'm getting sick—or everyone around me is sick—I down a teaspoon of oregano oil. It's one of the more disgusting-tasting things Mother Earth has to offer, and it burns, but it kills anything coming into your nose or in your mouth. I don't burn sage in my house or anything—I'm not that woo-woo—but when I see the results, like with oregano oil, I'm all for it.
Then I get the kids ready for school—and there's usually an argument about what shoes to wear. Usually I drop them off to school in my PJs because I generally wear pajamas that can be worn out of the house and I don't have enough time, nor do I care enough, to change into regular street clothes.
I don't look at my phone until after I drop my kids off at school. It wasn't a commitment I made or anything, there are just other things I have to prioritize in the mornings. I'm just like everyone else and spend a ton of time on my phone, just not in the mornings.
Typically, I don't work out until the afternoon. I am not a morning person at all and never have enough energy until later in the day. I need to have a clear head if I'm going to go for a hike, a run, or to the gym. I think it's all about knowing yourself and doing what works for you.
Bell isn't the only person who doesn't like a.m. workouts—Kayla Itsines isn't into them, either. And if you're also a big matcha fan, here's how to find the best-quality stuff.
