A new study published in JAMA Otolaryngology found that sipping on alkaline water and following the Mediterranean Diet was just as effective in managing acid reflux as using medication designed to reduce acid production made in the stomach. This makes them great natural remedies for GERD, or chronic acid reflux, too. Researchers found that they key is following a mostly plant-based diet. (Alas, spicy food, coffee, and wine are still recommended to only have in moderation, if at all.)
