And say you've got one that makes your girls feel good, often that comfort comes at the price of finding something that's also actually cute.
It's not all bad news, though. Best for boxing: Reebok Hero Power Bra, $55
"If every scientist put their heads together and figured out how to make a sports bra that made your boobs freeze in space and time, it would be this." —Ali Finney, senior beauty and fitness editor
Best for running: Le Mystere Active Balance Sports Bra, $60
"I’m a big runner and I’ve always struggled to find a high impact sports bra that held everything in place and didn’t stretch out. I’ve been wearing this bra for a year now and it still fits the same way it did the first time I put it on!" —Abby Maker, graphic designer

Best for Pilates: Brooks Juno High Impact Sports Bra, $45
"There's no such thing as a sports bra you look forward to wearing when you’re my size (36DD). This Brooks Running model, however, is the only sports bra I’ve ever bought several times. It makes me feel extremely secure and strapped in. The straps velcro at the front so that you can adjust how much you’re smothering your chest, and it has back cross straps as well as the traditional bra hooks. It’s the only sports bra I’d be comfortable wearing in a trampoline class or in outer space (sans gravity). —Tamim Alnuwieri, assistant style editor
Best for yoga: Outdoor Voices Slashback Crop Top, $55
"This crop does double-duty as a sports bra and a top. It compresses my chest so I can do anything from cardio to yoga without having to worry about the pain that comes from bouncing, which is hard to achieve with most crops since they tend to favor smaller-chested gals." —Sarah Madeus, editorial intern
Best for CrossFit: Koral Emblem Infinity Sports Bra, $98
"I love my boobs, but good lord, they get in the way when I’m trying to do CrossFit. We do a lot of high-intensity movements, so if I’m not wearing the right sports bra, my boobs bounce all over the place. The last thing I want to be worrying about is if my nipple is gonna pop out during burpees. But also, I don’t want to wear an ugly sports bra because that makes me sad. This bra from Koral checks all my boxes: It’s pretty (a moment of appreciation for the shiny panels and the mesh), but also has full coverage and just enough compression to keep my boobs locked down during double unders and box jumps." —Allie Flinn, contributor
Best for HIIT: Under Armour Armour Eclipse High, $55
"This one is perfect because its minimizing and flattering, but doesn't make me look squashed or like I have uni-boob, which I hate. There's no underwire, but the thick straps and material are supportive enough for any activity. It's especially hard for me to find sports bras that are supportive enough for running and high-intensity workouts, but this one does! Honestly, it just rocks." —Maddie Berse, client services manager
Best for spinning: Lululemon Enlite Bra, $98
"I love the Lululemon Enlite bra for spinning because it keeps me from spilling out when I’m leading a class (I’ve had a mid-class nip slip before, and it was scarring) and it really absorbs the impact from bouncing. The best bra for intense cardio, hands-down." —Sarah Madeus, editorial intern (She couldn't pick just one!)
