What’s the Top City for Keeping New Year’s Resolutions?
With Mercury retrograde wrapping up and the end of the year coming soon, it's the perfect time to set some 2018 resolutions (or should I say intentions?). One thing to remember, though: Where you call home may actually affect your ability to stick to your plans.
According to new research from WalletHub, Seattle is the number one city that'll help its residents stick to its New Year's resolutions, along with San Francisco and San Diego right behind. West Coast is the best coast, perhaps?
To come up with the rankings, the team at WalletHub looked at 52 different factors (including gyms per capita, average income growth, amount of sidewalks, and available dining, and employment outlook) in 182 US cities.
Seattle, which came out on top overall, interestingly did not place first in a single stand-alone category in the WalletHub rankings: For example, the city was second in health resolutions, and 89th for school and work resolutions, which included measures like average quality of nearby universities and median income. But, the city did have the lowest percentage of obese adults—impressive in a time where waistlines have been expanding nationally.

Other cities where you're likely to make good on your word? The top 10 includes sunny spots like San Jose, Orlando, and Austin. (Think good weather has something to do with it?!) The areas which ranked lowest, however, included Gulfport, MS; Shreveport, LA; Newark, NJ; and Detroit. So if you live in one of those areas, get up and out (and inspire your neighbors!) to have a healthier 2018.
