Buying flowers, however, is an easy and affordable way to breathe literal life into your living space or add a much-need pop of color. Yes, the shelf life of a bouquet can be rather fleeting, but Apartment Therapy reports one underutilized kitchen tool can help delay its inevitable wilting demise: a turkey baster.

Use a turkey baster to siphon the old water from the vase and then squirt clean H2O back in without disturbing any of your well-placed stems.

To keep bouquets thriving for as long as possible, replace the water every day or two (AKA before it becomes the least bit murky), because the petal pool can become a breeding ground for bacteria. Understandably though, if you really nailed your DIY your floral arrangement, you likely won't want to mess it up by pulling the bouquet from the vase in order to refill it with fresh water, right? That's where the turkey baster comes in: Use it to siphon the old water from the vase and then squirt clean H2O back in without disturbing any of your well-placed stems.
