The 6 best moisturizers with sunscreen

Sunscreen wins the lifetime achievement award for most important skin-care product. It prevents the early arrival of dark splotches, wrinkles, and extreme dryness—as well as skin cancer. Hello!

But hordes of women don’t want to wear it for a multitude of reasons. So we say, hide the sun-protecting minerals in your moisturizer! Like broccoli or hill sprints, it's better to have some than none at all.

We picked six superior skin-care products that do everything a great moisturizer should—and help protect you from UVA and UVB rays. —Melisse Gelula

Marie Veronique Everyday Sheer Coverage SPF

Anti-Aging Tinted Moisturizer

Marie Veronique Everyday Sheer Coverage with SPF 20 ($50)

It feels like a light moisturizer, you’d never know sun-protecting zinc oxide was in it. The slight tinted (choose from four shades) evens out your skin tone, and the silky formula gives you a poreless matte finish. While you're looking at your glowing skin in the mirror, antioxidants fruit oils from pomegranate, red raspberry seed, and coffee fruit extract are working beneath the surface to prevent moisture loss and early signs of aging.

kimberly sayer ultralight moisturizer spf25

Ideal for Acne-Prone Skin

Kimberly Sayer Organic Ultra Light Facial Moisturizer SPF 25 ($32)

This is a simple moisturizer, with a simple ingredient list, that's made for keeping skin breakout-free and balanced. You can thank lemon, sea algae, and oat beta glucans for that. It has such a light lotion feel, you won't worry about your pores clogging. And it contains titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, the two minerals that protect against UVA and UVB rays.

Living Nature gift with purchase

We’re newly obsessed with this Lavender Refreshing Body Wash from Living Nature.

It’s super cleansing (bye-bye boot camp sweat), and refreshing with a citrus–tea tree scent. And it's normally $25.

You can get one free when you buy $60 worth of beauty staples at Saffron Rouge through Friday, August 24.

Josie Maran Argan Oil Daily Moisturizer with SPF 40+

A Light-Weight Lotion with Amped Up Sunscreen

Josie Maran Argan Argan Oil Daily Moisturizer SPF 40 ($32)
Argan and pomegranate oils are great antioxidant skin-nourishers. Pair them with an SPF 40 and you have a homerun. Somehow this moisturizer absorbs in a second, and, as I raved last year, it minimizes shine (thanks to the zinc) and gives my skin an evenness like a tinted moisturizer or primer.

Super by Perricone Tumeric SPF

Antioxidant Powerhouse

SUPER by Dr. Nicholas Perricone Daylight Savings SPF 25 Moisturizer ($38)

The hero ingredient in this moisturizer is turmeric, a powerful antioxidant that can help skin fend off stressors, like UV rays, irritation, and even acne. Sun-protecting zinc oxide plays backup. And Dr. Perricone adds his favorite skin-firmer, DMAE, and vitamin C ester to improve skin tone and texture.

Juice Beauty moisturizer

Fruit Forward

Juice Beauty SPF 30 Mineral Sheer Moisturizer ($29)

For natural newbies, Juice Beauty is often a first-stop on the clean-beauty train. Its user-friendly packaging and celebrity fans help with that, as does the fact that when you read the ingredient list there's a long line of organic fruits listed, like apple, white grape, and pomegranate. Hydrating your normal-to-dry skin skin are plant oils and a serving of sodium hyaluronate, which draws water to the skin.

John Masters Organics

For Freakout-Prone Skin

John Masters Organics Natural Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 ($32)

We love the unisexy packaging and its barely-there appearance on your skin.  The aloe-jojoba base is great for complicated (freakout-prone) complexions—and the lack of fragrance a boon for the scent-sensitive. Plus, pretty much all of the ingredients (green tea, hyaluronic acid, and calendula) have a skin-care benefit, too. One thing these three have in common? They're skin calmers.

I love Marie Veronique! I also highly recommend adding the Sequoia Beauty serums to your list. Organic serums that range from SPF 20-30. And they don’t include minerals or synthetic chemicals; the sun protection comes from the oils. I have, as well as some clients, tried these out on day trips in the convertible with the top down. They’re amazing!

I live for the Josie Maran moisturizer w/ SPF 40. It is the only moisturizer/sunscreen I’ve found that doesn’t make me break out, and it (the argan oil, I assume) has even reduced the previous acne scarring I have. AWESOME.

Honestly, I would LOVE this more if it came in more color options. I bghuot the medium tint and it was fine in the winter but once I get tan in the summer it just makes my forehead look ashy and that’s not cute. And the next color up is a bit too dark I actually tried combining the the med/dark together but that didn’t work either. I didn’t want to see this moisturizer go to waste so I gave it to my sister that’s just a smidge lighter than me. Unfortunately, it made her break out. She doesn’t want to throw it out either so she’s using it sparingly.

Hi, which do you recommend that won’t make me look shiny (oils) or pasty (zinc) when in the AZ sun? Ideally a matte finish with natural aging and sun protection? Thx, Dave

The skin is the human body’s largest living organ. Its primary purpose is to protect the rest of the body. Millions of tiny openings, called pores, allow oil, called sebum, to reach the skin’s surface and keep it healthy and moisturized. These pores also allow dead skin cells to reach the skin’s surface and be sloughed off. It’s a perfect system; the skin is constantly renewing itself http://www.poshified.com

Best I have ever used is Monsia! ^_^

I have used every expensive lotion for the face from Kinerase to Clarins but the Made from Earth Vitamin Moisturizer really is the best. It has the crucial ingredients, collagen and elastin and really replenish my skin and make it look and feel like I am 20s again (I am 41). The scent is also very light and very pleasant as I am trying to avoid heavy, perfume laden creams and lotions.
