13 Lucky Astrological Placements That Bring Good Fortune and Abundance
ICYMI, your astrological placement is your birth chart—where your signs, planets, and constellations are positioned. Which sign—and house— hosts Jupiter and Venus in your chart determines your luck, essentially. “If you have Jupiter in the signs of Sagittarius, Pisces, or Cancer or Venus in the signs of Libra, Taurus, or Pisces, then these would be considered more auspicious astrological placements,” says Ryberg. Don’t fret if Jupiter or Venus aren’t aligned with these signs in your chart. Astrological luck can also be determined by which astrological house Jupiter and Venus sit in.

What determines luck in astrology?
The bigger they are, the harder they fall—unless they’re Jupiter. The biggest planet in our solar system is also the luckiest astrological placement. She’s the queen of abundance, riches, and fortune. “Luck is generally associated with the planet Jupiter, as well as ‘good’ aspects between other planets, meaning that they flow together well,” says professional astrologer Erin River Sunday. Bonus points if you have sextiles or trines instead of squares or conjunctions, she adds. Sextiles? Trines? If you’re confused by all this astrology lingo, here’s a quick refresher.
Aspects are the language between each planet and are calculated by their distance. “Certain aspects indicate planets working together and supporting one another and others indicate planets hindering or working against one another,” Ryberg explains. There are four aspects: sextile, trine, square, and conjunction. She adds that a sextile (60-degree angle) or a trine (120 degrees) are optimal because they’re considered "more supportive and easy."
What is the house of good fortune in astrology?
Remember when we said zodiac signs aren’t the only indicators of luck? That's because houses come into play, too, when it comes to lucky astrological placements. There are 12 astrology houses and each represents a part of life, from your home and family to relationships and intimacy. The house of good fortune, according to Ryberg, is the 5th house because “it signifies things that are more pleasant and enjoyable, such as romance, hobbies, desires, creativity, children, and sex.”
"Being Jupiter ruled means you tend to view life with a very positive lens. The glass is always half full for these people." —Clarisse Monahan, astrologer and tarot reader
Sunday agrees, noting that the 5th house is known to be the most fortunate. While Jupiter in the fifth house is a strong placement, Ryberg argues that Venus in the fifth house is an even luckier placement. Since Venus is the planet of love, pleasure, beauty, and art, being positioned in the 5th house (where all things creativity and pleasure live) means fulfillment, abundance, and riches are heightened.
What is the house of bad fortune in astrology?
“The 6th house of the birth chart is known as the house of bad fortune,” Sunday explains while speaking about lucky astrological placements. This is because the 6th house represents the not-so-fun things in life like responsibilities, jobs, and the mundane things. “It signifies things that are less enjoyable and more difficult in life, such as illnesses and injuries, work, obligations, and the things we have to do, rather than the things we want to do,” Ryberg says. It’s also where Mars loves to reside, Ryberg adds. Mars is the planet of action, energy, and drive, so these two combined (Mars and the 6th house) only bring more hard work and no fun. Definitely not much luck going on around there.
What is a strong placement in astrology?
1. Venus in the 5th House
There’s no better place than Venus or the 5th house. So imagine how great it is when both are placed together. Both embody all the rich things in life—love, wealth, happiness; the list goes on. “Venus’ favorite place to be in a chart [is the 5th house], and as the planet that signifies love, art, and beauty, we often find things that revolve around those topics in this house,” Ryberg says. This means you can expect a lucky love life and plenty of riches to make you happy.
2. Jupiter in Sagittarius (Rising Sags)
Jupiter in Sagittarius is a strong placement, notably because Jupiter rules over Sagittarius. What does this mean, exactly? Well, Rising Sagittariuses will experience everything Jupiter has to offer including optimism, openness, and abundance. (Wishing you were a Rising Sag right now? Same). “Being Jupiter ruled means you tend to view life with a very positive lens,“ says Astrologer and Tarot Reader Clarisse Monahan. “The glass is always half full for these people.” It’s not just riches that are in your fortune either. This placement brings about wisdom and knowledge from past experiences to help you grow and reach your brightest and best self.
3. Venus trine Jupiter
Any planet next to Jupiter is lucky. However, Ryberg says the most auspicious pairing is Jupiter trine Venus. Trines are the luckiest aspects because “they're in the nature of Jupiter and [signify] ease and support between planets,” Ryberg explains. You can say this placement is the trifecta of luck, considering Jupiter is the luckiest planet, Venus is the second, and the trine is the luckiest aspect. Together, this will bring you the best (and most) luck possible.
4. Venus in Libra
Ah, Venus and Libra. Venus is the chart ruler of Libra so this is a very special pair. You can expect harmony, creativity, and charm. For relationships specifically, a happily ever after is on its way. Venus Libras are dedicated to partnership—but not just any partner.
5. Jupiter conjunct Pluto
Sunday says this placement is, possibly, the luckiest one of all. “Jupiter in connection with Pluto is known to bring great wealth,” she says. “When these planets are conjunct, wealth is indicated.” This isn’t a common placement—it only happens around every 12 years but when it does come, expect not only financial success but an abundance of riches overall.
6. Venus in the 10th House
“As people are naturally drawn to Venus energy, this placement means that opportunities for you are plentiful, especially when it relates to your career, awards, and achievements,” Monahan says. “You can be very lucky with getting your foot in the door, finding yourself in places at just the right time, or moving up the ladder quickly.”
7. Jupiter in Cancer
Another strong placement, says Ryberg. Cancers are cardinal signs (signs that mark the beginning of a new season) and Jupiter is exalted in Cancer, which brings luck to this crab. Cancers are emotional and sensitive creatures. Pair that with the abundance of Jupiter and you’ll get emotional intelligence, fulfillment, and intuition.
8. Venus in the 7th House
“This is an extremely auspicious aspect for love,” Monahan says. Having Venus in the 7th house of relationships indicates partnerships (whether intimate, friendship, or business) in your life come easily for you and are a great source of happiness.
9. Jupiter in Pisces
People born with Jupiter in Pisces are some lucky folks. Pisceseans are dreamers—a romantic, creative, and compassionate group who see the best in people. And with Jupiter in their orbit, more positivity and fortune are coming. Think of Jupiter as your guardian angel, guiding you spiritually and emotionally.
10. Benefits in the 10th House
Ryberg says the benefits (Venus and Jupiter) thrive in the 10th house, the house of social status, public image, and career goals. When Jupiter is in the tenth house, a raise or promotion might be coming (or already here!). Some newly acquired knowledge or skill may give you a leg up in your career. Really, just expect a bit of luck in your professional period during this placement.
As for Venus in the 10th house, your professional and personal life are improving. Maybe you got praised and applauded by your boss or received a promotion. This placement indicates you’ll receive success and recognition for your professional accomplishments but also attention for your charm, wit, and social skills.
“As people are naturally drawn to Venus energy, this placement means that opportunities for you are plentiful, especially when it relates to your career, awards, and achievements,” Monahan says. “You can be very lucky with getting your foot in the door, finding yourself in places at just the right time, or finding yourself moving up the ladder quickly.”
11. Part of Fortune conjunct Jupiter
“The part of fortune isn’t a planet or luminary but a mathematical point in the birth chart,“ Sunday explains. “It’s calculated based on the Sun, Moon, and Rising and reflects their intersection point– so it’s a very unique position to everyone’s specific chart.“ If you have your part of fortune in conjunction with Jupiter, consider yourself lucky. “Jupiter and Fortune together can add energetic support wherever it is located in houses of the birth chart,” adds astrologer and transformation coach Lumi Pelinku.
12. Jupiter conjunct North Node
The North Node in our birth chart points us toward fulfillment, Pelinku says. Though it can be uncomfortable to pursue, she adds that once we start living the path of our North Node, that can lead to fortunate opportunities. And when you add Jupiter into the mix, it gets even better. “With Jupiter conjoined with the North Node, this adds a layer of charisma and a boost of luck when they decide to take a chance and try new things,” she says. “This planet sends assistance in divine signs/synchronicities, as well as chance encounters that provide support in ventures. Jupiter adds this power of confidence and blessings to someone as they walk their own unique path.”
13. Venus in the 1st House
Jupiter might be known as the primary Benefic planet but Venus is not shy of fortune either. “Venus represents a powerfully attractive force in our cosmos,” Monahan says. “People and things are drawn to its energy. It doesn't have to work hard to receive perks and benefits.” Monahan says Venus in 1st house aka Ascendant is a ticket for good fortune and happiness. This placement indicates a sunny and charismatic disposition. “These people are natural socializers,” Monahan says. “They want to connect with people everywhere they go, and people want to connect to them.”
What is the luckiest placement in astrology?
It’s hard to say which placement is the luckiest. But Jupiter in Sagittarius is considered a really, really lucky pair. Why? Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter and is often nicknamed the “lucky” zodiac sign. Pair the two together and the energy is explosive. This means you’ll see more optimism and open-mindedness. Not to mention an insatiable thirst for knowledge and a wanderlust spirit. “Jupiter’s the brightest, biggest planet in our solar system, and others might experience your optimism and brightness, too,” astrologer Rachel Lang said in a previous Well+Good interview. “This ruling planet indicates a mix of generosity and openness. It’s the great benefactor, and others notice your charisma and tend to feel good in your presence.”
Final thoughts on lucky astrological placements
Some people are just born lucky—literally! But even if you don’t have any of these placements in your birth chart, know that you can find luck in other ways, like adopting a lucky plant or practicing abundance affirmations. There are tons of abundance rituals to perform if you’re lacking on the luck front in your natal chart. Plus, having a lucky mindset has so many benefits—from boosting your confidence to increasing your optimism, according to a 2023 study1. So, yes, it sucks if you weren’t born under a lucky astrological placement. While your astrological placements might not have any sprinkles of fortune, however, there are other rituals, routines, and even a little bit of magic that may help to bring lots of good fortune your way in the future.
