Here’s Why You Should Really Have a Set of Agate Coasters at Home
One of the quickest routes to bringing zen into your home is finding functional uses for things that were previously labeled "woo." Case in point: Crystals. Maybe you've dabbled with them at a yoga or meditation class, but are looking for a beautiful way to incorporate them into your living space. An easy first step is to look for a stone called agate, which commonly manifests itself in the form of bookends or coasters.
Agate coasters not only add interest to a room with their color and texture, they're also a stylish, easy way to infuse your home with high vibes. Kristin Petrovich, the author of Elemental Energy: Crystal and Gemstone Rituals for a Beautiful Life and founder of the crystal-infused Sjal Skincare line explains that agate has been tapped for its purported energy-boosting qualities since back in ancient Greek and Roman times.
Nowadays, if you talk to a modern energy healer, they'll tell you there are a slew of different kinds of agate crystals. "Green moss agate is considered the most powerful of agates," says Petrovich, "and [has been used to] balance emotions as well as enhance concentration, success, and endurance."
Another common varietal is blue lace agate (a personal favorite of mine thanks to its sky-blue hue). Connected to healing the throat chakra, blue lace agate has been said to bolster communication and expression, says Petrovich. "It's both a grounding and spiritual stone, allowing one to bring their spiritual experiences into their everyday reality."
What's more, you don't need to go out of your way to carry all kinds of healing agate around with you—in coaster form, agate is quite literally multifunctional. Zen vibes in the home FTW.
