Here’s your energetic forecast for May, straight from the cosmic divinations of Alyson Charles (AKA RockStar Shaman). Consider it a metaphysical roadmap for the coming weeks, with everything you need to know for the month ahead—including the spirit animal Charles says you’ll want to call forth as a guide on your path to self-actualization. After all, it’s not just the stars and planets that can give you a heads-up on what’s about to happen. 

There was so much reconfiguration energy in April, much of last month may already feel like a blur. During this year of shedding old skin and rebirthing into the fullness of who we really are, we are naturally guided and inspired to courageously claim much deeper truths of our authenticity and power. And along with us boldly voicing in new ways who we truly are, the deeper the “tests,” challenges, and initiations that go along with that can be.

These challenging experiences are of course precisely the medicine we need to gain and embody the capacities and necessary abilities for us to walk our deep truth with as much grace, beauty, and ease as possible.

So, if you have been experiencing (or end up experiencing) what feels like really raw and sometimes exhausting moments, be sure to examine how it’s preparing you and how it’s truly serving your highest, greatest, earthly good. This examination will be vital and will get you through during times when you may want to give up, but please keep walking forth, keep walking through the fire.

You may at times feel like you have no idea what’s next, no clue where all this change is taking you.

The other strange paradox is that while you are anchoring more deeply in your truth than ever before, the re-alchemization and changes this brings you may at times make you feel like you have no idea what’s next, no clue where all this change is taking you. So, you’re more resolute, yet more confused about where it’s all heading, than ever before.

May is a time of being at one with the Great Mystery. As we unite more and more with the Great Mystery, which is the divinity and spiritual truths and energies of life, there may be a couple of things you experience:

1. A purifying of your being. You may be faced with experiences that touch and trigger some of the most sensitive parts of your being. If you are a people pleaser and your true power can no longer align with this old habit, you may be faced with situations where you feel rejected, misjudged, or disliked for “unfair” reasons—this Great Mystery medicine is allowing your being within to cultivate an inner fortitude that can release the people-pleasing pattern.

It’s hard to release from its grip, unless you’re faced with it in this way (sometimes repeatedly). And don’t be surprised if you have some very deep and cathartic sobs that just feel different this month—crying is one of the main ways we clear, detoxify, and purify.

2. Ego dismantling. With the deeper connection into the Great Mystery comes a growing humility. You may be able to hear more clearly how loud your ego can chatter, or realize that it’s a bigger part of you than you thought. Many of us on the awakening and shamanic path say, “The more you know, the more you realize you don’t know anything.” And so most times, in rising in your power and connecting more and more with spirit, scenarios come up that challenge your ego and fill you with a humble grace.

Major themes for the month

A few other key aspects that Source and Gaia communicated to me are: You may have sudden flash insights or epiphanies that occur out of nowhere. You may even be in the middle of working or a conversation, and suddenly you’ll realize how a childhood trauma made you habitually think a certain way. Or you’ll suddenly see something very clearly about someone in your life that you’d previously ignored.

You may also notice your circle of friends shifting, as you hone and discern who truly feels aligned, and who you can truly trust and call upon. You’re never alone, but if having a few more amazing, vibrationally aligned, and trustworthy friends in your life sounds nice, ask Universe to send them to you!

When I communicated with Great Mother Gaia (Earth) she said repeatedly, “Just keep on swimming.” So just keep flowing, my friends.

Universe did want me to express that while May can feel deep—like it’s excavating ancient energy that can’t be there any longer in order for you to fly, shine, and soar like you’re meant to in this life—things can be easier than what we’ve previously thought. Look for ways to break out of things feeling like a chore or difficult. And keep on swimming. When I communicated with Great Mother Gaia (Earth) she said repeatedly, “Just keep on swimming.” So just keep flowing, my friends.

When you’re being challenged or if you feel exhausted from having your truth tested, be gentle and loving with yourself. And like water, gracefully just keep moving forth. Do not let yourself get stuck in anguish—that is not what this month is about.

May’s spirit animal: the crow

We have a very potent animal totem to assist us with these new horizons ahead—the crow. The crow is the bird who represents transcendence, and remembering that if we hurt another we only hurt ourselves. Its medicine asks us to be mindful about judging people automatically.

The crow brings with it an omen of change—it’s time for you to get out of your familiar nests and begin to look far beyond the ways you have previously seen things.
