Your October energy forecast: Get ready for things to start moving *fast* in your life

This month is all about one thing: expansion, says “RockStar Shaman” Alyson Charles. The only trick? Avoiding self-sabotage. Here’s how to do that—plus the full energetic forecast for October, divined by Charles. (And don’t worry, there will be spirit animals!)

The expansion is real! Wow, have you been feeling the stretch, the growing pains and activation of so much of your new? Once we hit the Autumn Equinox and full moon last month we truly entered into a much more activated phase of energy, and you may have felt a distinct shift that marked a pivot point from a more slumbered, internal energy to one of more electricity and things suddenly happening. With this combination of expansion and activation, be compassionate with yourself and others as the beginning of this month can bring up more worries or overwhelm as our systems are acclimating to these changes!

And this brings us to our main theme for October: conscious awareness of resistance. Whenever we are growing in a big way, it can be infinitely fascinating to then be very consciously aware of how our unconscious comes in to try to hold us back—constricting tightly in order to stay where we are and hold on what we know.

So, as we are in this time of energy, movement, breaking through, and major expansion, I urge you to be extra awake and aware of how you may get in your own way or subconsciously sabotage the growth.

Whenever we are growing in a big way, it can be infinitely fascinating to then be very consciously aware of how our unconscious comes in to try to hold us back.

Some examples of what you can look for: being overly self-critical and leaning more heavily into distraction mode (that’s the main way we take ourselves out of our full power!). When you’re in distraction mode, you may be reaching for your phone even more, numbing out through food or TV, procrastinating on projects that you know deep down will up-level your life, thinking you are a burden, and seeing a flare-up of patterns or behaviors that are self-defeating.

We must hold a space of love and honor for these shadow components (or the “dark sides” of your personality) just as much as we do the light, as they hold treasures of awareness that let us truly come into our full power. Not fearing or judging the unconscious shadow behaviors—or ways our psyche is trying to constrict us and keep us smaller than our soul wants—is a big October key.

It’s letting yourself be in a space of loving awareness. And when you notice the resistance to growth, breathing love into that space—knowing it’s all beautiful, and knowing that’s your cue to really soften and heed this message that channeled in: “I breathe into the expansion, I breathe into where my soul wants me to go.” Close your eyes and take that moment to truly breathe longer and slower, and visualize your aura and energetic encasement that surrounds you expanding outward, giving you more space, letting you be freer, allowing you to be in full activation mode.

Remember, the more resistance you feel to a project, the more important it is to your soul. Keep expanding this month!

October’s spirit animals: the praying mantis and the bat

Here to help us with these themes are two beautiful totems: the praying mantis and the bat. Calling the praying mantis forth to be with you through October, giving you its guidance and medicine, will be invaluable as it will keep you centered and patient to make the precise moves you should commit to for success.

The activated energy of the month may tempt you into moving and spinning at a pace that will not be for your benefit, so even if you feel the energetic insurgence, remember that wisdom emerges when we remain quiet and still.

Remember to take your time and intuitively sense and feel your way to a decision, which will thwart overly critical ways of thinking or acting too hastily. Remember: “I breathe into the expansion, I breathe into where my soul wants me to go.” And remember conscious breath, which is present, poised, elegant, calm, and loving.

It’s about learning how to feel “upside down” in many ways and trusting all of this transformation.

The bat will be incredible at assisting you in calming fears of transition and nervousness about changes—and it also gives extra courage in seeing the dark and the shadow. For many of us, as we built new foundations for our lives over the last six to 12 months, many aspects of our new existence are total 180s from the old. Think of it like how the bat hangs upside down in the cave, with the opposite framework and position as it works its powers in the dark. So it’s really very representative of how we’ve been living, too.

This month is about learning how to feel “upside down” in many ways and trusting all of this transformation. Call upon bat to release the old ways and ease your full transition into your new phase!

Overall, October will bring a wide array of activities, feelings, and encounters—it will force you to remain in your center, to find your breath, and to empower yourself by not retreating to holding yourself back or constriction. Step confidently forth (when the time is right) where your soul wants you, in human form, to go!
