Wow, what a ride September was, right?! Some uncomfortable moments of seeing truth, and most likely you encountered some difficult conversations. But with all the swirling mix of happenings and emotions, which might have felt like chaos, towards the end of the month I hope you began experiencing epiphanies and gaining very powerful clarity around yourself, your life, and the people in it.
October is a month with a theme of focus—now that you are seeing your true power and the courageous badass you are (and yes, it is safe to let yourself see it!) and where your priorities should be, it is now up to you to completely hone your gaze, like a laser beam, to where your positive thoughts and energies need to go.

One important thing to avoid in October is taking on other people’s problems, specifically if someone in your life is sending you energy and responsibility that isn’t yours to carry. (Though this obviously doesn’t include people in our community who are in crisis—like those recovering from disasters right now in Puerto Rico and Mexico.) As many have been experiencing great expansion and growth within themselves and their lives, you may be witness to (and experiencing within your own self) some moments of discombobulation as we find our way with the new versions of ourselves. Having compassion as your fellow humans find their internal compass is important, but you must watch out for being the target of unwarranted “acting out.”
When momentous change occurs, we as humans can feel extra vulnerable, which may create fear that can get projected or thrown energetically in unexpected directions—this is where you must determine if someone else’s actions, energy, or words are theirs to own and if so, be sure to not take them on yourself. (And take responsibility if you do this to someone else!)
You have the ability within you to feel when energy that is not your burden gets sent to you, and you must remain compassionate yet set healthy boundaries, rise above, and keep it moving, remaining focused on your path and your goals. Now is the time to have focused acceleration with your new visions and keep your thoughts pointed toward the sun. I repeat: Do not take on other people’s problems. It’s a time of growth with human relations and we must remain compassionate and as fully aware as possible.
Tools for this month’s energies
What can assist with all the above? Being able to transmute energy. Two powerful ways that allow us to do this: creating a sacred space or altar within your home and trying on a Merkaba.
An altar is simply a small, dedicated area within your home space that has a special candle, maybe elements of nature that bring you positive energy: possibly crystals that are great for this month (such as lolite or celestite), some palo santo, and a picture of a love and light guide. Create a space you can go to that helps you reset your energy, restore your strength, and remember your truth—including the blessings, help and divinity that surround you.
Now, what the heck is a merkaba? “Mer” means light. “Ka” means the spirit. “Ba” means the body. And it is a divine light vehicle that you can call in to surround yourself with. [Editor’s note: A merkaba, in many spiritual traditions, is the energetic field that forms a “light body” that allows you to connect with higher realms.]

Once you feel your merkaba around you, allow yourself to be protected, to have any energies that are not yours be released and ask the merkaba to fill you with light and truth. Do a mini merkaba meditation where you feel yourself expanding with light and focus on your breath with long slow inhales through the nose and longer, deeper, exhales through the mouth. When you feel clear and back to your power you can thank and release your merkaba. October’s spirit animals: the cheetah and the gazelle
And if course, there are our sacred animal totems for the month. Cheetah is our dominant medicine. Call it in to give you positive vibes, self-esteem, and cheetah-like focus for your goals. Interestingly, cheetah’s main prey, the gazelle, also showed up this month. The subtler influences of gazelle medicine for the month are there to assist us with having greater ease with our vulnerabilities, the ability to have awareness, and have comfortability in discovering the unknown—which equals a lot of grace as we rise after all the stretching of last month.
