I Tried the Hanacure Facial, and the Results Were Even Better Than the Selfies

There’s something about face masks that makes people want to slather them all over their complexion and share selfies. Trust me, I get it: A mask that bubbles to ten times its original size or covers your skin in pink glitter is practically begging for likes. And while Instagram-famous face masks are practically a dime a dozen these days, there’s one that has been popping up on our feeds for years: the Hanacure Facial ($29).

As a general rule, it’s safe to assume that you can’t believe everything you see on Instagram (I learned this lesson the hard way after standing in line for upwards of an hour for a $6 not-as-advertised chocolate chip cookie). So, I decided to try the mask out for myself for the latest episode of Zoe Tries It All to see if it really does live up to the hype. The mask is touted as an “all-in-one” facial treatment that targets concerns including dullness, clogged pores, hyperpigmentation, and fine lines, and wrinkles. Thanks to a combination of peptides and a special kind of mushroom (called “ruby of the forest,” for those who are wondering), it works to lift, firm, clarify, and detoxify in one fell swoop.

It’s also become a cult-favorite among beauty pros and celebs like Chrissy Teigen and Drew Barrymore, thanks to the fact that it makes for a wild photograph and supposedly leaves your skin looking baby-fresh the minute you rinse it off. ICYWW: When you put it on, it wrinkles up to make your face look like it’s aged 25 years—basically making it the IRL version of the Snapchat old lady filter everyone was in love with last year. As you can imagine, the selfies are glorious…but are the final results?
