Khloe Kardashian rubs this crystal on her face for clear skin—but does it work?

Want to keep up with the Kardashians? To get a camera-ready glow, you may want to rub a crystal (or, ahem, krystal) all over your face.

Khloe Kardashian—you know, the sister with the fitness fashion closet of your dreams—shared on her app yesterday that she’s started using a tourmaline roller as a complexion boost.

Jade rollers have been around since well before reality TV became a thing—but what about tourmaline?

“I call this my ‘magic wand of beauty’…which works by massaging your skin with tourmaline stones to tighten muscle and improve circulation in the neck and face. Not only does it lift and smooth, but it preps your skin to absorb products so that you get the most out of them,”  she wrote, referring to the $69 Instant Uplift Facial Firming Beauty Tool.

Jade rollers have been around since well before reality TV became a thing, and are known to de-puff, stimulate circulation, and promote lymphatic drainage. But what about tourmaline—is Kardashian just ahead of the crystal beauty curve?

I consulted Luke Simon, crystal guru at Maha Rose Wellness Center in New York City, to see if there’s any known benefit to the newest Kardashian obsession. “That’s ridiculous!” was his response. “People are just taking the buzz behind metaphysics too far without actually doing the work that matters.”

There are benefits of the rock—as Simon notes, “Tourmaline is a detoxifier, so it would be good at removing old negativity”—but you’re better off leaving it in your pocket or near the front door than pressed into your face.
