When it comes to makeup, it isn’t just the shade of foundation you need to make sure you get right. If you want your lip gloss to stay put under your N95 mask or keep your concealer from creasing, a setting spray is a must-have for your beauty cabinet. It keeps your makeup looking fresh and perfectly settled for hours on end. And for me, there’s only one product that has passed the test and continues to keep my makeup from becoming a hot mess after a long night out—time after time after time.
Enter, Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Setting + Refreshing Spray.

Milk Hydro Grip Set + Refresh Spray — $36.00
Made with hemp-derived cannabis seed extract, hyaluronic acid, aloe, and niacinamide (vitamin B3), this spray works to hydrate, refresh, keep your makeup in place for up to 12 hours.
It’s been my secret weapon over the past several weeks while I’ve been masked up on the NYC subway and hopping from brunch to brunch in full glam every weekend. The formula locks in your makeup for up to 12 hours, and hydrates your skin in the process. It does this using ingredients like hyaluronic acid, aloe, and niacinamide (vitamin B3), which together help boost the skin’s moisture barrier and help reduce inflammation.
It also contains a bit of cannabis seed extract to help give it an extra kick. “Hemp oil provides nourishment and hydration, because it has one of the highest concentrations of polyunsaturated fatty acids of all naturally occurring oils,” Jennifer Weiderman, the CMO of Hempz, previously told Well+Good. “It is non-greasy and provides an optimal balance for moisture retention.”
The spray is also alcohol-free, which is not something many setting sprays can tout. This helps keep your skin from drying out, since alcohol can strip the skin of its moisture and cause irritation. But the real cherry on top is that you can use the spray as a facial mist to prep your bare skin. Just spritz some after you apply moisturizer to give your skin some extra dew.
To be honest, I didn’t think anything could top Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray, which has been a staple in my makeup routine for over five years. But this exceeded my expectations. This Milk Hydro setting spray is super lightweight and easy to apply. It’s heavier than a mist but still light enough that it won’t melt your makeup off. Just be sure to spray eight inches away from your face to avoid redoing your makeup.
Honestly, what made me a true convert was how well it kept my skin moisturized under all the glam. As someone with constant dry skin, I need hydration all the time—and this spray delivers. It’s not overwhelmingly moist, but it leaves your skin feeling supple after just a few spritzes. It also reduces the amount of makeup transfer onto my mask. This is likely due to the blue agave extract in its formula which helps “grip and set” makeup. And not just around my mouth and nose—my winged liner is always just as rich in color as it is when I first apply.
But for others, the spray’s “fresh” and non-sticky formula was the real selling point. “I absolutely love this setting spray,” one five-star reviewer raved. “It keeps things fresh and doesn’t transfer your makeup to your face masks. It also doesn’t feel sweaty or sticky, and I feel that’s pretty crucial when putting stuff on your face.”
