Is there anything more welcome than the sweet smell (and higher temps) of spring? While the weather may not totally feel like it's there yet, warm weather is on the horizon, and what better way to kickstart a new season with a brand-new dye job? We talked to colorists Meri Kate O’Connor and Marie Nino to get their expert predictions on the prettiest hair-color trends you’re about to see everywhere in spring 2025.

“I’m loving the spring 2025 hair-color trends, which are all about warmth, dimension, and effortless beauty,” says Marie Nino, a stylist and colorist in New York City. On the horizon this season is a wide range of hues, from rich neutral browns and creamy platinum blondes to deep cherry tints and pastel lavender washes, so there’s bound to be a trend that’ll work for you whether you’re seeking a minimal shift or total overhaul of your current hair color.
1. Strawberry Brunette

Everyone’s heard of strawberry blonde, but strawberry brunette is a different ball game. If you love the look of red hair but don’t want to give up your (literal and figurative) brown roots, this might be the perfect spring switch-up for you. According to Nino, this look is achieved by mixing warm brown with hints of copper and rose, which adds a “subtle, romantic warmth without going full red.”
2. Bold, All-Over Blonde

Are you crossing your fingers to snag tickets for Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter tour? In the meantime, you can still take inspo from our generation’s most iconic singer and her head-turning hair color, which Meri Kate O’Connor predicts will be one of spring and summer’s most-requested shades.
It’s important to factor in the maintenance a style like this takes, of course. It isn’t for those who take a lax approach to their salon visits, as it takes considerable and consistent upkeep to ensure it stays looking its best, as well as the diligent use of toning hair care (purple shampoos, for instance) and the avoidance of products that could unintentionally discolor your strands (like serums with dyes). In short, make sure you’re ready for the commitment before you take the plunge—if you’re up for the challenge, though, this look is well worth the work.
3. Buttercream Blonde

A color as delightful and fluffy as its moniker, this shade is a bright and beautiful look that feels beach-ready—even if the weather is not quite warm enough to head there just yet. “Buttercream blonde is a soft, golden blonde with a creamy finish that gives a natural, sun-kissed glow,” explains Nino. Pair it with a wash of bronzer and a warm nude lip liner (another big beauty trend in 2025) for a cute spring look.
4. Medium Mocha Brown

Citing the Pantone Color of the Year for 2025 as inspiration, O’Connor loves the delicious mocha mousse hair color for spring, which Pantone itself describes as a “warming, brown hue imbued with richness,” offering a sense of comfort and ease. Calm and carefree, this hair color balances earthy, neutral tones of browns and beiges, making it stand out among the seas of bright blondes and deep espresso brunette shades.
5. Dimensional Platinum Blonde

While Sabrina Carpenter's highly influential curtain bangs garnered the most attention in 2024, it’s her striking blonde that will influence the hair-color landscape of 2025, according to O’Connor. This shade wears beautifully with any cut, too, whether you have a super-short pixie cut, long layers, or a shaggy bob. Like any platinum color, it still calls for a higher level of commitment and due diligence in upkeep, its more multi-hued look makes it a little less tricky than a solid, icy-pale shade a la Beyoncé.
6. Rich Brunette

While there’s no shortage of lighter hair colors trending this season, blondes certainly don’t have all the fun—O’Connor says deep, rich brunettes are still going strong for spring 2025. Striking and dramatic, this look is fantastic for every hair length and texture, and looks “polished, shiny, and expensive.” Want to give your hair a mirror-like shine and keep it from looking dull? Add a quick and easy at-home hair gloss treatment to your routine.
7. Honey Wheat Bronde

What better way to celebrate the warmer weather than with a multidimensional golden shade that combines the two most common hair colors into one gorgeous shade? If you’re in search of a high-impact hair color with a lower level of maintenance, look no further than bronde. As its name suggests, bronde is a “perfect mix of brown and blonde with a golden hue,” explains O’Connor, noting that it gives off tons of shine thanks to the golden tones. To get this pretty and playful shade, Nino suggests asking your colorist to blend golden blonde and sandy brown tones, which creates “a naturally rooted, lived-in look.”
8. Cherry Cola Red

Another tasty-sounding trend for spring: is cherry cola red. Rich, dark shades like these are usually associated with autumn, which makes it all the more intriguing to try it out during the brighter months when the sunlight will let its reflective tones truly sparkle and shine. For this bewitching hair color, red and burgundy tones are layered over a deep brown base shade, giving it a “bold yet totally wearable feel,” explains Nino.
9. Pastel Lilac Wash

If you’re feeling extra adventurous for spring this year, indulge in a delicate, candy-colored hue. Nino loves this dreamy color because it “adds a soft, sheer layer of muted lilac, leaning into the boho aesthetic.”
While this look is playful and fun, it’s important to note that it is very tricky to pull off on your own. Unlike some of the other colors on this list (rich brunette, for instance), which are potentially achievable with at-home hair-color kits, ultra-light shades like lilac, baby blue, and bubblegum pink call for the experienced hand of a professional for the best possible results. As someone who once utterly wrecked my own hair by trying to bleach it to an adequate lightness for pastel purple, I can tell you firsthand that it is way harder than it seems and takes a long time to fix.
