#BPOTD: If your shower is missing something, it’s probably this

Beauty editors have no shortage of skin-care and makeup goodies that come across our desks. So when we become obsessed with something, it says a lot. In our “Beauty Product of the Day” series (#BPOTD, for short), we wax poetic about the items that are truly game changers for hair, skin, and nails.

I always feel like such a monster when I comb my wet hair. Whether I use a flat brush or a wide-toothed comb, all I can feel are knots and my poor lengths being ripped as I try to untangle them from one another—which isn’t a good feeling, to say the least.

Hair is in its most fragile, compromised state when it’s wet because the bonds between the proteins are weaker (that’s why it’s super stretchy compared to dry hair). So as I brush or comb, I’m more likely to cause breakage, which leaves my hair frizzy and uber-damaged by the time it dries. This becomes a toxic cycle of wash, rip, and frizz (repeat).

So, when my fellow beauty editor came in one morning wielding Wet Brushes, I was intrigued. “I’ll try it!” I shouted, probably over-enthusiastically considered it’s merely a brush. But—lo and behold—I soon find out that it’s way more than a brush.

The Wet Brush is best described as a magic wand for wet strands. It has flexible bristles that work their way through my mane to painlessly detangle. The next morning when I shampoo, condition, then sit down to try out the device, my jaw drops to the floor, and I audibly gasp as it makes its quick and pain-and-obstacle-free way down my hair, from roots to ends.

PSA: You can even use it in the shower to brush as you’re conditioning, cutting down on the post-rinse getting-ready routine and also on dry hair, which I find to be equally successful. I’m never going to find a knot in my strands again. Consider me a newfound brushing fanatic.
