And Just Like That, Dr. Scholl’s Are About to Become the New, Podiatrist-Approved Queen of the ‘Ugly Shoes’
When you think of Sex and the City's fashionista protagonist, Carrie Bradshaw, images of her iconic blue Manolo Blahniks likely come to mind. Or, maybe the ruffley, hot pink Christian Louboutins her and Samantha swoon over in Season 4 ("Hello, lover.") But a pair of *checks notes* orthopedic Dr. Scholl's sandals? Seems more like Charlotte's speed.
In a plot twist no one was expecting, Sarah Jessica Parker was spotted wearing a pair of Dr. Scholl's Original Sandals ($120) on set filming season 3 of the SATC reboot, And Just Like That..., proving that even the boldest patron saints of footwear need to give their feet a break every once in a while, too.
If you're not familiar with these sensible wooden sandals, they're designed to keep your feet comfortable and supported all day long. "The original Dr. Scholl’s Slide Sandals are ideal for foot health for two reasons: fit and function," podiatric surgeon Cary Gannon, previously told us. "The slide sandals properly fit the foot by providing a wide toe bed that allows the toes and metatarsals to spread out for even weight distribution among all the metatarsal heads." Metatarsals are part of the bones in your foot, FYI. She adds that the slight heel actually is good for your Achilles tendon.

The sole—sturdy and rigid—gives your feet support. "Feet require a more rigid structured shoe to support the body and align weight properly. A cushioned or flexible shoe forces the bones, joints, and muscles of the foot to work harder to stabilize the weight of the body," Dr. Gannon said. "The results of proper fit and function are decreased pain, improved function, and happy feet."
Available sizes: 6-11

While the exact pair of Dr. Scholl's Parker sported are selling out like hotcakes (surprise, surprise), there are a handful of similar styles worth a spot in your closet. The Original Too Slide Sandals ($130) are just as good for feet but crafted with a smidge more height plus sport a rubber outsole for extra durability. Or, you can go low with the Nice Iconic Flat Sandals ($80), which are about as comfy as they come.
No matter what style you go with, these podiatrist-approved shoes are sure to be this summer's queen of the ugly shoe. Thanks, SJP.
