Salad doesn't have to be complicated. All you need is a few of your favorite greens topped with a flavorful and easy vinaigrette. Chef Alex Guarnaschelli has a simple recipe with just the right amount of brightness to make every other ingredient sing.

Guarnaschelli, a judge on Food Network's Chopped and executive chef at New York City restaurant Butter, is always sharing cooking tips on TikTok. In one of her lastest videos, she divulges the formula for her famous vinaigrette. "I have a great vinaigrette. My classic. I call it the 3-2-1-1 vinaigrette, and it's foolproof every time," she says. "This is great for salads, fish, roasted vegetables, and whatever else."

The put-to-everything vinaigrette only requires four ingredients: extra virgin olive oil, red wine vinegar, Dijon mustard, and water. The trick is to follow the formula to get the right proportions: "Three tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil, two tablespoons of red wine vinegar; it's such a good, affordable vinegar," she says. "One tablespoon of Dijon mustard, and one tablespoon of my favorite ingredient of all: water. It's so important."
