For those of us who like to geek out on wellness tech, the third week of January is the most wonderful time of the year. That’s when the annual Consumer Electronics Show takes place, where brands across all industries unveil their most exciting innovations. The first smart watch, meditation headband, and therapy robot all debuted during the event in years past, and 2021’s (digital) CES has given us even more devices to get excited about. From beauty tech that make your routine simpler and more sustainable to gear that makes outdoor workouts safer, read on for the best new wellness tech 2021 we can’t wait to try.
A shower head that makes washing your hair easier and more sustainable
Sustainability and simplification seem to be top of mind for 2021’s beauty tech, and L’Oréal’s new shower head is a prime example. It’s designed to be used both at home and in salons to cut water usage down by 80 percent. Eventually, the device (which will launch this spring) will be outfitted to dispense shampoo and conditioner right alongside its water flow.
Personalized home fitness equipment
Smart home fitness equipment is about to get a whole lot smarter. Bowflex announced the launch of JRNY, which creates customized, adaptive workouts for every body. The tech tracks your progress, and makes workouts more challenging as you get stronger. It’s available via the brand’s new connected treadmill, elliptical, or bike, but you can also sign up for a stand-alone membership that you can use on your smartphone or tablet. Meanwhile, iFit will be upgrading its smart machine technology later this month with ActivePlus, which tailors the intensity of any iFit program to optimize your workout based on your heart rate. Over time, it will also be able to “learn” users behavioral patterns over time to give them exactly what they need from their fitness regimens.

A perfumery in your pocket
Forget the dozens of perfume bottles cluttering your vanity: Ninu pares them down to a single device. The cylinder holds three cartridges that include the foundational categories of scents, and pairs with an app that allows you to choose what combination and amount of these scents you want dispensed at any given time. In other words? You can choose from a variety of fragrances based on your mood, no excess packaging required. The device is not yet readily available, but you can sign up for updates here.
Headphones that make outdoor workouts safer
While there are a number of benefits associated with working out outdoors, there’s always been the inkling issue of safety, especially when it comes to running at night or biking with headphones. Two new innovations are hitting the market to make those activities less risky. JBL recently launched a pair of reflective ear buds that make it easier for cars to see you, and in April, JLabs will release a pair of $49 headphones that hook up to your glasses (instead of going directly into your ears) that will allow you to listen to your favorite playlist while also being able to hear what’s going on around you.

A device that makes it easier than ever to find the right lipstick shade
Beauty devices are clearly having a major moment (See: The Opulus, which launched earlier this year, plus all of the even newer examples above), and YSL is getting in on the game with the Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Sur Mesure Powered by Perso. It’s outfitted with three different lipstick shades, and pairs with an app on the phone so that you can mix and match the colors to achieve exactly the lip tint your looking for. The device–which was first announced at last year’s CES event—will be available to consumers this spring for $299.
Vibrators that make masturbation even *more* fun
Your trusty rabbit may be able to get you to orgasm just fine, but two new launches from the sex toy world are bringing tech into the bedroom to make it an even more exciting experience. From Lora Dicarlo comes a line of warming vibes (including a bullet, a butt plug, and a dual-end vibrator), and Satisfyer is bringing us an app-controlled clit stimulator that pulses to the beat of any song.

The toothbrush auto-links to an app on your phone, and is powered by AI to give you personalized recommendations and guidance for the cleanest (and healthiest) mouth possible.
