This CrossFit Games winner will soon be helping New Yorkers with their box jumps

Don’t be surprised if you see an uptick in kneesock sightings in Tribeca come January, when ICE NYC officially opens its doors.

The hybrid CrossFit-HIIT-yoga studio has brought on Camille LeBlanc-Bazinet—2014’s CrossFit Games winner—as its director of programming. The 27-year-old Canadian will not only be bringing what ICE NYC founder Izzy Levy describes as her “fun-loving, lighthearted, affable” personality to the otherwise grueling workout, but will also have a hand in shaping a unique program for members.

But don’t let the “fittest woman on Earth” title intimidate you: Her plan is to offer a three-tier system that addresses the needs of a wide-range of abilities, from kettlebell swinging newbies to advanced athletes. “Preparing the coach with well-planned scaling options for each class is our solution to differentiate ourselves from already existing CrossFit programs,” explains Leblanc-Bazinet. “This will give myself—a CrossFit games athlete—and my grandmother the same relative stimulus.” Notice how she said relative.

It’s not the first time that a CrossFit gym has brought in a big-name—CrossFit Union Square tapped Annie Thorisdottir, who won the CrossFit Games in 2011 and 2012. But Leblanc-Bazinet’s presence certainly elevates ICE NYC above the average box. (The luxe boutique studio’s spa-like design, laundry service, and private label cold-pressed juices also helps with that.)

As for the mat-toting women there for the Melt Yoga classes? They may soon be medicine ball and battle rope converts, too. “I started my CrossFit journey with a feeling of exhilaration; I want to share that,” says Leblanc-Bazinet. “The idea of helping others to feel that great sense of accomplishment at the end of a workout excites me.” —Rebecca Willa Davis
