Peloton unveiled its first-ever retail location this weekend. The fitness-meets-tech company makes state-of-the-art bikes for home use that have a very high-tech feature—they come with a over-sized tablet attached to the handlebars, which streams indoor cycling classes with top instructors that you may have read about here.
John Foley, Peloton’s founder, chose a home in the Short Hills Malls for the uber-bike because “it’s on the short list for the best mall in America, complete with a Tesla Store and an Apple Store. It felt like the perfect place to launch a revolutionary product like the Peloton bike.”
The store has five production bikes, and you’re welcome to bring your spin shoes to clip in for a test ride, says Foley. (Disco lights, towels, and water not provided. You’ll have to wait for the studio for that.)
Early sales in Short Hills have been brisk, say Foley. The first shipment of bikes is already sold out, and riders will receive them in December, along with white-glove set-up service. The high-tech bikes go for $1,995; a subscription to unlimited indoor cycling classes is $39 per month. Those placing an order for one now—either on-line or in-store—will get their bikes in January, he says. Just in time for your New Year’s resolution.
