Folding Your Workout Clothes Into “Spandex Burritos” Will Totally Change Your Life
In life, there are a lot of burritos worth loving: The sushi burrito, the egg-white-and-avocado burrito, and the cauliflower rice burrito. But the best burrito of all, as far as making life so much easier? The spandex burrito. (Sure, it’s not as delicious as all the other ones, but just #trust).
As anyone with an overflowing drawer of workout clothes knows (read: everyone), keeping things organized can mean a hardcore headache and a major mess when you're searching for clothes at 5 a.m. With the “spandex burrito” method—AKA rolling up your gym top, leggings, and sports bra into one outfit—your morning getting-ready routine will be as relaxing as a MNDFL meditation class.
This technique won't necessarily save you more space, but "'slippery' clothing such as spandex workout gear tends to slide around, making it nearly impossible to remain folded," says Jacki Hollywood Brown of home organization site Unclutterer. "Creating rolls allows items to stack up like wine bottles or to be stored on their ends like cinnamon buns."
Here, a quick guide on how to roll every piece of workout clothing you own, so you’ll never have to come home to a rainbow-colored pile of workout gear again.
Read on to learn exactly how to fold your entire workout wardrobe into spandex burritos like a pro.

What to include
- Fold your leggings in half so that the two legs come together into one long leg. Next, bring the ankles up to the waistband.
- Next up: the top. If you're wearing something with long sleeves, lay your shirt on a flat surface with the front down. Then, fold the shoulder into the edge of the collar, bringing the sleeve down the back. Repeat the motion on the other side, then lay this on top of the leggings.
- If you have a tank top, fold it hamburger style (creating a wide shape) from top-to-bottom and then fold it again from top-to-bottom, so that it's a thin strip of material.
- Roll everything into one, stacking them on on top of the other, so that you can grab and go.
What to leave out
- Sports bras can be the one exception to the spandex rule. "I don't recommend rolling bras for storage," says Hollywood Brown, unless they're unpadded because then you won't mess up the cup shape. Instead, gently fold the straps into the cups and neatly stack them on top of each other.
- Same for socks, which can be easy to pick up on their own. You know, every great burrito needs sides.
Well, your workout drawer is on lock, so here's how to fold everything else you own to make even the tiniest space a full-on storage palace. And while you're at it, take a second to toss those flimsy wire hangers cluttering up your closet space—your clothes will thank you later.
